next round of polls are queued up for Monday so I'm all ready to go (and if an ongoing poll changes results it won't be too much trouble to update the post for that result)
Cosy hoodie weather 🍂🍃🍂
Idk if tumblr messed up my asks or something I sent a bunch.
Yes, I have them! I’m sorry, it’s a bit difficult to write them out right now, I have to answer most asks from my phone, and yours are going to take a little while to type out. Sorry, things are going kind of slow but I do have the asks I believe! I’m guessing yours are the tattoos and Dark canons ones? Sorry, they might take a little while to answer, my phone is having a lot of trouble connecting due to the weather, and I only answer HB related asks from my phone so I can properly tag them, which desktop does not let me do.
What’s your biggest literary pet peeve? That thing that just ruins a passage or a chapter, maybe even the whole book? For me it’s whenever food is described in detail. I’m reading a kissy teen romance and the narrator just went into detail about her chicken salad, everything that was in the chicken salad, and it made me hate a book I was enjoying up to that point. Food description should be limited to 1 sentence unless it plays an important role in the plot
For me it’s when I feel like the author did some research or knows a lot about the subject, and they are trying to show you how much they know. Soooo annoying. This happens most often with historical fiction where they are practically shoving in your face that This iS NOT the CURrent TIMELiNE!!! And you get infodumps about current events and technology and stuff.
The other thing is in literary fiction when the author is trying soooo hard to be intellectual. I’ve read books before where I was like “jfc you teach X subject at a university, don’t you??” and I check their author bio and I’m right.
Either way, it’s like when I can tell an author is there in the story, it turns me off. If I’m getting information about a world or what someone is thinking about and it’s not vital to that scene, I can tell they just included it to be like “look at what I know!” I’m reading for a story, not to be impressed by how much an author knows about their topic. That’s what non-fiction is for.
oh also I don’t mind food descriptions in books, I love food and sometimes it helps me feel more like I’m in the scene because I’m getting information about other senses. But that’s just me. :)
tumblr why do you hate me 😞
