That sounds so painful. How’d you even manage to do that?
You take a regular earring and push it into the old piercing hole, then pull it back out, wipe at the ear with your nail to get away anything that might have pulled out (sometimes it’s not closed so much as full of bits of old skin or something), then just keep repeating it, trying to push the earring in a bit deeper each time.
It hurts, it takes a while, but eventually you get through to the back. Now, I’ve always had issues with the last couple layers of skin healing to cover the piercing hole at the very back, so I had to use my thumb nail to just kind of slice along where the metal post was poking through and the skin parted. If you’re through far enough then you shouldn’t feel it at all (but maybe general pain from the surrounding area).
It’s a process. I did each ear over about 5-10 min (one ear went a lot faster than the other).
Oh- and it helps to do it right after a hot shower, but I didn’t do that this time. The heat relaxes the skin and makes it easier to get things moving around. You’ll have to leave the piercings in for a couple days straight MINIMUM (whenever I re-open piercings I go for a couple weeks), then it should be fine.
My piercings are only half-open right now, because I got them pierced in Korea and they used what is technically a small gauge. So I’ll put in hoops and heavier earrings to pull and stretch the holes a bit, then put the korean earrings through to stay.
