After-Prom: The Unofficial and Unauthorized Second Chapter of “‘The Prom Debacle,’ by Molybdochalkos”
A modern AU fixit fic of, The Dragon Prince, by acronymKing This is a fixit fic written 2 1/2 years after Molybdochalkos posted their cliffhanger, The Prom Debacle. (Linked here for those who wish to read / re-read this work.) Reading the original, The Prom Debacle, probably isn’t necessary to understand After-Prom, but it would help, and besides, The Prom Debacle is a good piece of writing. There is quite a bit more preamble in AO3, but here is the start of After-Prom. (For those who saw the WIP post, November 9th, the fic has undergone extensive editing and revision since then.) Without further ado ... “I’m so sorry, Callum.” With these words Rayla turned and fled, racing blindly into the forest as Callum’s desperate cry of “Rayla” rent the night behind her. “Oh God, … fucked up, … so sorry, … “ Desperate thoughts looped through her mind as she ran until, less than 100 yards into the woods, her fortunes took yet another dive - literally - and she tripped. Sprawled flat out on the forest floor, Rayla made no effort to get up. Sobs of frustration wracked her body as she dug her fingers into the soft earth, overwhelmed by humiliation stacked upon humiliation: of being physically dominated and helpless against the brute strength of Kasef and his friends, of having no one but Callum even try to intervene … of the ruination of her gown. And perhaps most painfully, the humiliation of daring to hope that Callum would like her, would see her the way that she saw him, only to have him reject her in such a transparent and awkward fashion that she had now jeopardized the one friendship that she had always been able to count on. “I’ve wanted to do that for a while … I’d just been hoping-” How could one little dream get crushed so hard? I really liked how easily the book read and how it was divided up. I printed it and then gave each of my committee heads the chapter that applied to them. We had our after prom, it was a HUGE success. More…
