Orange Hues
{June x GN! reader}
[tw: None just some cute fluff]
You sat at your desk, the orange glow leaking through the windows reminding you just how long you have been sorting through these papers. Sei was out on important business, meaning you had to cover for him. It wasn’t a problem, at least, not at first. As time went on, things became much more troublesome. Kati and Cyrille came into your study not too long ago to ask your opinion on which one of them is better, and just earlier, Day and Atachi managed to break a vase while playing some game in the hall.
You sighed and stared down at your papers. ‘Sei had to do this all the time? AND he never complained?’ you thought. This gave you a new appreciation for the housemaster, and, in some way, it gave you the motivation to carry on with the paperwork as well. This boost of energy, however, did not last very long, as you found yourself staring idly and the stack of papers.
And then, a knock on the door. You had ignored it, hoping whoever was behind the door would leave you to your work. The knocking once again started. You guess whoever was at the door, was not getting the message. You sighed and started to work on the sheet of paper in front of you.
“Come in…” you beckoned. The door opened to reveal an energetic ginger with a smile on his face. This smile always found a way to brighten your day, but this time the smile you gave reeked of insincerity.
“Manager! So this is where you’ve been hiding! It’s lovely to see you this evening! Especially since I haven't seen you all day!” June spoke in a cheerful manner, as he always did. He approached the desk you were seated at. You looked up at the man and rubbed your eyes.
“Ah… Yes. I’ve been a little caught up…” June’s eyes scanned your desk and his eyes fell on the two stacks of paper that were on either side of you. They were about the same size, one being a little taller than the other. June then glimpsed at the paper you were currently writing on and saw how you placed it on the slightly taller stack.
“You’ve been working hard I see! Is this from the week? You’re making excellent progress!”
“Well yes and no. This is all from today. I couldn’t do it the last couple days because of our missions, then the catastrophe with Day and Atachi, then the fight with Kati and Cyrille, don’t even mention the kitchen fiasco. I don’t know how Sei does all of this.” Your eyes shifted towards the window, you noted the sun was setting. When’s the last time you watched a sunset? Let alone take a break. Your eyes were captivated by the shifting orange and red hues outside your window.
“Would you like to watch it with me?” June’s voice broke you out of your trance and your head swung towards him.
“W-what?” You were lucky that the warm tones were illuminating your face. The reddish hues to your cheeks wouldn’t be easily noticed. Was June really asking you this? Right Now? You would love nothing more than to go out and watch the sunset with June. Even for a fleeting minute, It would feel like heaven.
“I asked around, and no one has seen you come out of your office...and you’ve already completed all of this work,” Junes' eyes hinted towards the stack of papers on your desk, “You’re overworking yourself...Please take a break...with me?” The smile on June’s face was innocent, kind, ethereal even. Your heartbeat quickened, you were sure June could notice the blush on your cheeks now. It was probably as fiery as his hair.
“I...I would love too, but...I-” You were quickly cut off by June’s sudden movements. Your feet were suddenly off the ground, strong arms around your frame. You looked up at June who was now carrying you bridal style.
“Sorry Manager, but I wasn’t going to take no for an answer” He said in between chuckles. He quickly ran out of your office, you only could hope no one saw you two running down the halls and out one of the back doors. He sat you down gently, unlike how he just swung you through the hall in his arms. Though, of course, you weren’t complaining. The two of you sat down on the soft grass. Your heartbeat still heightened from the closeness of June, and the whole situation you too just went through, or should I say ran through. You stared at the ground, a meek attempt to hide your burning face.
“Manager...I will always believe you are doing well, in everything you do... I hope you know that, I will always be here for you. My arms will always be here to help you if the load gets too heavy to carry by yourself! I hope to always be by your side...If you’ll let me of course.” June let out a nervous chuckle looking down at your hands and interlocking them. You smiled at him, how could he go from a hyperactive golden retriever to a nervous sweetheart?
“I think I would like that…” and with this you turned your gaze towards the setting sun. June’s gaze, however, still lingered on you. Mesmerized by the way the light framed your features. No matter how hard he tried he could tear his gaze away from the sight.
After all, why watch a sunset when you have something ten times more magnificent in front of you? That’s what June thinks anyway.
