With June almost ending, I really wanted to draw a fanart of "Alters" by Paul Jenkins and Leila Leiz, a lovely comic I've read for pride month, where the protagonist is Charlie/Chalice, a trans girl superheroine who just got her powers while still transitioning. The 2nd half of the comic focuses on Sharise, a black homeless woman who also just got powers and is ready for anything to protect her children. The rest of the cast is also great and I loved reading the editorial at the end with interviews to the many trans women that helped the comic's creation and the author's own experience with homelessness.

So I wanted to make a fanart with Alters' main characters meeting Bob and use the occasion for a little tribute to June's important occasions and awareness campaigns, and to Jenkins' characters that drive important messages and well thought representation through their stories.

Project Patron

The Patron! Our greatest hero! Killed 30 years ago by his greatest enemy, Woe, and come back from the dead to keep protecting us!

...is the lie everyone is told. For Patron has really been dead all these years, and the Patron everyone knows is a robot piloted by an elite team of specialists who, with their combined knowledge, are ready for just about anything. Except the death of one of their own.

For most of this series, the comic is about the people who have to pretend to be Patron trying to recover from the death of their leader, all the while the sinister Matthew Mammon works in the background. For the most part, it's them learning to lean on each other, step up and be heroes in their own right in the face of overwhelming odds, and it's absolutely glorious.

The ending, though? FUCK that ending.

I will avoid getting into it here for spoilers, but I will say the writer clearly set it up in previous issues, so my disdain comes from distaste. It's just such a rug-pull of an ending after everything else that came up that it left me nonplussed. If you are okay with a shocking swerve, then this book might be for you.
