Aftg fandom I cannot emphasize enough that some of you guys need to learn to just fucking scroll past posts. There was a creator on here that I really liked and I thought their posts were great until they made a joke I found wildly inappropriate and rude, so guess what I did? Unfollowed and blocked them.

Sometimes I think my mutuals have bad takes in this fandom. I simply ignore it. Good for you bestie glad your HC makes you happy I'm just not vibing with it.

However I just saw a post that someone made VERY light heartedly and all the fucking Kevin stans lost their damn minds and it is so not hard to scroll past shit. For some reason this fandom has an obsession with writing fucking essays on your post if they think you have a bad take on fictional characters from 13 years ago. Like the amount of time I've had to been like "hi this was just my interpretation you really didn't need to react like that" or "hey you could have corrected me way nicer" or "hey this was deeply unnecessary of you to do" is crazy. Like I cannot emphasize enough that from now on, AFTG posters and creators, if someone writes a giant fuck ass paragraph on what should be a light hearted post, please normalize blocking them. Shut that shit down it is poisonous to fandom spaces.

Side bar: this does not include genuine fandom debate and discussion. I mean people going out of their way to start shit and writing full blown 5-10 paragraph responses to something that is incredibly not deserving of that reaction.

okay i'm thinking about this bc of that last post. all for the game is a story i love but it's also massively flawed as a book series and i can pinpoint exactly the cause of one of its main struggles? i've never seen this discussed and have never felt the need to because i have all the respect in the world to nora for self publishing but i'm curious if anyone else has noticed.

i picked up on this because my husband has a webcomic, the original conception of which comes from when we were both still in high school. i am also a writer and have ideas with a similar lifespan. and i know that aftg had a comparably long existance before being written and published.

the thing i noticed because of how much time i've spent reading scripts and suggesting edits:

when you and the people who edit for you have spent long enough with your characters and story, it's way too easy to lose track of what completely unfamiliar audiences won't know.

for a while the main suggestion i had for my husband was "your audience has no way of knowing that." they had to add significant sections to their early script because of that, almost entirely focused on establishing character dynamics.

because what's obvious to him, to both of us because i've been hearing about these characters and their inner worlds and complex histories since we were sixteen? unless he expressly communicates that on page, nobody else will know.

and it doesn't seem like anyone pushed nora on that! i love aftg. i was able to read it from the first time and accurately read into the implication and what establishing information we were given. but i was able to do that and understand what felt off balance because i have a lot of practice with that.

i think a lot of people notice something about the pacing and the way we learn about characters feels strange, with aftg. i don't know how many people realize that the story assumes you already know the characters, that that's what the story breezes by. but i do think that's what alienates a fair amount of people from being able to get into it?
