Sinterklaas Het is weer bijna zo ver, het heerlijk avondje, rond de schoorsteen of de achterdeur, wachtend op sinterklaas en zijn cadeautjes. Op tafel
Saint Nicholas
It's almost that time again, the wonderful evening, around the chimney or the back door, waiting for Sinterklaas and his presents. On the table is a bowl with gingerbread cookies and marzipan. Meanwhile, all six e pocket because that twisted candy is already two months in stores and you can not leave it anyway. Delicious gingerbread nuts, kruidnoten, chocolate, marzipan, chewy and so on. And oh well it's cozy and yet "the end of the year" so what does it matter.
Santa)
When we are still waving Sinterklaas goodbye, the Christmas tree is already decorated in the living room and the kruidnoten make way for Christmas stollen and other delicacies that now defy the shelves of the supermarkets. Every day we are bombarded with advertisements about what has now been purchased especially for you, with the greatest care. After 3 days of eating more than we can eat (and the days around it, but for the sake of convenience we forget them very quickly) we have a week of rest before the oliebollen can be removed from the fat again.
Old and new
But we are now in the flow and all those goodies of the Christmas season are now on sale! So let's just keep going. December 31, take a tour of the neighborhood with everyone to taste who has baked the tastiest oliebollen this year (read fried, but that sounds just a bit less tasty) and then around less night the alcohol flows freely and there is a lot of snacking.
January 1st
1 January, sleep in and recover from all the festivities. January 3rd, the storm of holidays has passed and slowly the realization comes to the havoc it has wrought, “shall I step on the scales?” is the thought running through your head. “No, I'm going to do some sports again first” is the next thought, but around January 5 you are so busy in life that sports again fall behind.
Known screenplay? Then you are not alone, this happens to a large part of the population every year. However, the holidays need not be a problem, as the word implies, it is a time of celebration. And a party includes relaxation, good food and a drink, no problem either. But if you don't do anything with it, it can become a problem. So what can you do to get through the holidays 'safely'?
Here are some tips that can help you:
Limit unnecessary snacking; on holidays there is good food and that is ok, but try to maintain a normal and healthy diet during the days in between.
Keep moving; try to keep exercising around the holidays, this will keep your combustion going and your body can absorb more.
Alternate snacks; pepernoten, Christmas stollen, oliebollen, all delicious, but try to alternate these unhealthy snacks with healthier variants. Examples are: nuts, (dried) fruit or (raw) vegetables. Less exciting but also less bad for you.
Count your calories; try to pay attention to what you ingest, we all have a calorie requirement per day and if you pay a little attention to what you ingest you don't have to go far beyond this. Nowadays there are all kinds of handy apps that make this much easier.
Limit alcohol; this point is a difficult point for many people and it is up to you whether you indicate a hearing. Alcohol is bad in many ways, it contains many empty calories, it removes inhibition so that you quickly unnoticed eat more and it is simply unhealthy for your body. So try to drink in moderation.
Get back to work! ; After the holidays, pick up a healthy lifestyle, good nutrition, sufficient exercise and relaxation. If you are not sure how or if you have difficulty with motivation or other impeding factors, then call in a professional. This can be in the form of a (personal) trainer and/or lifestyle coach and/or nutritionist.
