Can I Have This Dance? [1978] Marlene&James
The whole day seemed slow, very very slow and then all at once fast. It was like going to the top diving board of a swimming pool. The climb seems like forever and that moment of standing there, staring down at he bottom of the water seemed to go on forever. Standing fixed to that spot staring at your fate, knowing that this was the only way, there was no backing out. This was it. When you take the plunge, that first jump everything else follows at the speed of light, whizzing by, not noticing anything except the sound of your own heart in your head.
James had hit the water, and hard. He had married his childhood sweetheart, Lily Evans, now Potter. As she left to go and speak to his friends, he went for a drink. The village hall was small but it was big enough for the both of them. All they had known was that with the war, they had to be married and soon. He couldn’t stand another moment with her not being his wife.
He picked up a glass of wine and sipped it smiling to himself as he heard a slow cheesy romance ballad come on over the radio. He swayed where he stood as he watched Peter run away from another Bridesmaid who had had too much to drink. He chuckled softly and then looked to his left and saw Marlene, he hadn’t even noticed what she was wearing but she looked stunning.
“All right snot face?” He asked walking over to her with an air of charisma about him. He sipped his wine as he looked sown at what she was wearing. “You actually look innocent... Is this an ambush?” He joked with a grin.
