THISTLE KHOUSUUH, THE THUNDER DRAGON / DELIVERER OF THE EKANOX ( character is agender! he/she/xey/they pls! )

Thistle hails from a lineage of legendary entities known as the "dragons" and the first— and last— of her specific variant. Throughout the history of the Ekanoxian extinction, dragons were also referred to as “half-beasts”. Typically dragons are humans that have been born from a parent infected by the zombifying Pestilence, resulting in a creature that is spiritually and biologically trapped in an unsteady balance between human and undead. Unfortunately, the birthrate for dragons is low to nonexistent, as is their survival. Thistle, however, is the first dragon in Ekanoxian history that was born to two draconic parents, rather than through infection, Thistle was born with the ability to metaphorically walk between the realm of life and death. Thistle sports a charming and enthusiastic personality, many say that he “lights up” every room he walks in— for better or for worse. His bombastic and eccentric personality can often be both infectious yet sometimes overbearing. Thistle tries his best to be aware of this, but he often can’t help it. Thistle is very upbeat and energetic, he's determined to get things done, carrying a stern determination and Thistle is additionally loyal to his actions and morality. If Thistle says he’s going to do something, you best bet he is. He’s very observant and aware of his surroundings... usually. (IMPORTANT LORE CONTINUED UNDER CUT because it's kind of long lol)

at long last... thistle has a new reference and updated lore! my goal was to get all of this done before artfight, and i managed to achieve that goal :D i was gonna wait to post this tonight but honestly, i'm just excited to finally have this design completed. i'm beyond happy with how thistle's new design turned out!

in general i've spent almost two years developing this revamp of thistle, as they are an incredibly important character to me. thistle is also the main character of the horrific eldritch narrative within the ekanox anthology! every separate story told within this world alludes to thistle one way or another, which i am writing on my own time.

THISTLE LORE (CONTINUED)

Thistle has a unique connection to the Ekanox because he is a “fully blooded” (meaning, his DNA is comprised entirely of draconic origin) dragon— the first, and the last fully blooded dragon to exist. Most dragons gradually transform into a unique, draconic form of beast due to this eldritch connection, but Thistle has grown resistant to it due to being conscious of his own instincts and neglectful of the Ekanox’s influence. Thistle does not live under the control of the Ekanox as other infected and dragons previously have. Most uniquely, Thistle is the first dragon to have an almost symbiotic relationship with the Ekanox. Though, the Ekanox seems to benefit more from this connection, acting as as a curious tormentor of Thistle. Thistle tolerates the elder god, at the very least. Thistle is capable of communicating directly to this eldritch being, although it tends to be a rather painful and unpleasant experience. (Read more about that HERE.) His connection to death does not stop there. Thistle also bears a close connection to the Pestilence and all of it’s flesh-born aberrations. Just as he can communicate with the Ekanox, Thistle is capable of understanding the infected and those impacted by the Pestilence, such as the flesh that covers the Earth and the great Blood Wall. In contrast to the Ekanox, Thistle bears a close friendship with the Blood Wall. Thistle has many names within the Blood Wall Society. Some know him as the “Dragon of Caeruleum”, at the Temple of the Ekanox, he is known as the “Thunder Dragon ''. In legends written upon old, coffee stained paper made from old trees and the hide of the infected, he is described as a mighty beast capable of summoning storms Earth has not known for over a thousand years, the ultimate hunter, the end of the apocalypse… The truth is, Thistle is much more light hearted than the tales say. A lot more, actually. These great prophecies are mere murmurings of a divine expectation that Thistle does not adhere to. Thistle is incredibly upbeat, friendly, and upbeat. He has a very bright demeanor and it’s rare to see him without even the slightest grin on his face. Aside from his scales and immense height of almost 8”0, his shining personality and impulsive nature is his most recognizable feat. It’s hard to sway Thistle once he’s got his mind set to a specific goal or idea. Where the prophecies and legends describe him as a monster of apocalyptic size, he prefers a quiet, fun life full of friendship, food, and relaxation. And that’s exactly the kind of life he’s pursued as best he could.

BONUS LORE EXERPT!!

Only may the one born of thunder speak to the red, as it speaks to them. Through the red shall they see visions. Visions of their own flesh, visions of the Elder God’s flesh. Intertwined, may they be tormented by the knowledge of the universe. This is the One. From thunder and flesh, a creature not yet seen by even the eyes of the Pillars, would be born. From the last half-beasts, a true dragon would be born. The Thunder Dragon will be born in blood and sorrow, then, it will descend from the blood in which it was born from, and it would set forth to understand the red. The red shall whisper it's knowledge and all of which it has seen, and the Thunder Dragon shall hold this knowledge, cursed to withhold it from all who surround. The red will bring the Dragon a vision of omen, a hand extended from the Elder God, whom beckons the Dragon: "I have seen what dwells in you, I wish to have it. I wish to understand it. Bring me what lies in your heart." The Dragon shall resist, it will run and hide and instead find solace in the Wall who whispers. She will comfort the Dragon in his deluge, yet she will bring no resolution. Once more, the Elder God will reach to it. "Come to me, hear me now, Dragon. Deliver the message to me, what has the Red spoken?" Thus, the Dragon will rise from it's shade of grey matter and lightning, it's form shall shift to mythic, and it will remain silent. It will show the Elder God, and all of the red, what it has learned.
