Landslide | Chapter 91 | You Ask Who I Am

The coffee cup was cold.

The coffee, made from ground up beans with hot water added to it, was now nothing but a cold reflection that stared back up at her. The rain on the window pane to her right was like tiny knives slicing at her skin, even as she sat inside the warm kitchen with the wet hair that lay pressed against her neck and then the blue towel wrapped around her figure, which seemed to remain cold and stiff against her skin, despite whatever purpose the thin piece of blanket seemed to hold in that moment.

" Enjoying your coffee?" she heard a voice ask and she glanced up to find Agent Mortem there in the doorway, his own hair wet and pressed against his face, the cane he usually adorned, lain against the wall of the threshold beside him, abandoned. Agent Mortem watched Natia for a moment, watched as she glanced up towards him with a cold fronted gaze like a winter storm, her white knuckled grip on the coffee mug more apparent than normal suddenly.

hey friends!!! sorry it’s been about a month since we’ve lasted visited with natia! school’s been chaotic af and i have barely had time to take the time to sit down and update! :( so i am very sorry about that bc i’ve been meaning to put this chapter out for *weeks* i tell you! this is sort of a ‘beginning of the end’ chapter if we want to call it that (insert sad face here!) and though it makes me excited to see out the end of this story and natia’s story more than anything, my heart does break a little to know it’ll come to an end. but i’ve done it before and it won’t hurt any less lol! 😅 thanks for sticking with me! :) i hope you all enjoy!

The silent agent walked a few yards behind Bachrach, watching his every move, every person he talked to, every time he seemed to turn his eyes from the path the stretched in front of him and off towards another direction.

How could he act so casual?

Walk around with proud strides, as if nothing had happened at the airport in Romania?

He couldn't remove his name from the world, and he figured if fateful Agent Mortem couldn't, Fidel, back in the car, could be the one to. Agent Mortem felt his lip curl as Bachrach gave a smile towards a few gentlemen moving down the street. Those men would continue on down the road without having known they had just walked past a madman and his accomplice by his side. And Agent Mortem would stay quiet, unable to say much without having Bachrach breathing down his neck.

AND WE’RE BACK! after 3 weeks of school being chaotic af (and alas my chem exam today was just absolutely wild, no avoiding that) i FINALLY have time to update landslide! this chapter has been sitting in the drafts for ages i stg, but with the school the way it was, there was just straight up no time. but today, i am forcefully making that time work into my schedule bc i am exhausted from school lmao. Landslide | Chapter 82 | Pity Won’t Win in Espionage

" Did you manage to see if a letter from my brother came in?" Natia asked him quietly, finding herself leaned back up against the wall opposite Captain Speirs' desk, her mind contemplating as she bit back her lip and let a familiar frown cross over her face.

" Not yet." Captain Speirs said; she noticed the used of 'yet' within those two words. He was still fueling the hope that she would get a letter in return - and it was something she hoped would still come true. Zofia's last few moments though echoed in her mind; they bounced off the walls and landed right in her brain and almost vaguely brought her back to that night, sobbing and yelling into the radio just to hear her voice. But she had remembered all these months later what Zofia had told her, what she had managed to say to her before the explosion. The camps.

Natia's heart managed to plummet as she stood there, and it caused her mind to race. If it were true, how was he able to even correspond? Her mind was caught in a disarray, a sloppy fashion of confused and loss nearly all at once consuming her. She could feel her heart pounding in her ears practically as she stood there.

Landslide | Chapter 65 | Bury My Innocence

Sergeant Guarnere had been trying to pull Sergeant Toye into a nearby foxhole when they'd both been hit and barely made it out alive with their lives. The guilt had only increased extensively after hearing those words from Babe Heffron who had heard it from Malarkey who had heard it from the mutters of Lieutenant Compton.

Natia had spent a few hours in her foxhole, silently pondering everything the past few months had encompassed and that was when the massive pile of regret weighed in on her chest, pushing any air she once had in her lungs straight out. Regret in war was a pain she had consistently experienced and learned to deal with but a guilt like this, a pain to this extent. Her feelings for Sergeant Toye had been long enough buried deep inside her, she had refused to let a dragon like that escape, a feeling like that occur. But hearing that Sergeant Guarnere was the one to jump out of his foxhole to pull him to safety, made every emotion inside her hurt.

Landslide | Chapter 70 | By The Silent Dust

The water was bitter.

It was cold.

Freezing if you will.

Natia knew the temperature had to be far dipped, at least below freezing point - even in the summer it seemed oceans this far up North never had highly anticipated temperatures for swimming. She stood there at the edge of the coastline, the sea pooling around her feet, thrashing at her ankles, threatening to drag her in as the cold wind whipped against her body, sending goosebumps spiked across her skin. The grey t-shirt had yet to touch that dark water and the shorts she wore already had the sprinkle of splashes hinted along the hems of the fabric.

Natia refused to show weakness though, to show she were freezing, that she were actually cold. Agent Mortem always said that signs of weakness made you vulnerable to the enemy. And when she went back out to the war, to the battles and on her missions, he had told her that she could be one of the best if she managed to perfect a skill such as that. Natia had already done that in her month and a half in fresh, war-torn Poland; she had to. It was the only way she had survived. Because if the enemy was able to see her flaws, everyone could.

HELLO ALL! and welcome to landslide part 4, entitled, an ocean of silence, introducing you with the first chapter of the part - by the silent dust! i’ve been BEYOND excited for this chapter more than anything — between this important opening scene, to many of the concepts as well as digging into agent mortem as well as the dynamic between him and natia — it sets the stage for what this part will be heavily focused on. i can promise you a few things though, we’ll see natia in a new light throughout this portion of the fic, we’ll see her dynamic with mortem as well as some of who he *really* is, and we’ll get to experience things that natia is also newly experiencing as well. IVE BEEN SO HYPED FOR THIS PART AH!!!! (and especially the open scene i really hope you all enjoy it, it was one of my favorite things to write :)) thank you and happy reading!!

Landslide | Chapter 71 | Muster Your So-Called Courage

Natia slowly lowered her weakened body onto the edge of the bed, where the fresh sheets that Captain Speirs had mentioned were as well, and finally let her shoulders sink the slightest bit and her head hang wearily. Her body ached in a soreness that made her body feel worse than it should and if anything she knew it were the fever running its course. Her head pounded, her neck ached, her body was shaky and it felt like she were plunged into an ocean, wavering on her feet. Sitting down, her head spun in a dizzy wonder and her throat was raw and hoarse nearly - she had things to do. She had a company to assist with. And she was stuck sick. Natia would rest for a little while though, she could push through. She had bigger problems than this.

George slowly lowered himself beside her, the cup of coffee in his grasp still looking steaming hot as he sat there, his shoulder nearly touching her own as they remained quiet for a moment in the room. What else was there to say for this war? George looked over towards her, and almost affectionately and gently, gave her shoulder a comforting bump.

HELLO!!! meant to get this out yesterday but i got preoccupied with my lab haha :D but i have the day off *finally* and have some freedom so i wanted to put this out this morning!! this chapter deals with some heavier themes, relating to natia’s depression, her trauma she’s experienced and it all sort of cultivating together at once; we really haven’t seen her able to handle that trauma she’s had, she’s been keen on just keeping numb and keep pushing forward into the war, so starting to see her peel back these layers is an interesting play by play with this next set of chapters! i’m very excited!!! and — ep. 9 is coming up soon and i have HUGE plans for that episode!!! i’m trying something out and i’m very hype :) thank you all for reading and enjoying <33
