Someone was knocking.

On the door she meant.

At least she supposed it was a door.

Her face was crammed into the pillow - it smelled like the back of an army jeep - and her body was still curled in a ball there under her blanket. She suspected the person knocking would call out to her, but instead they kept quiet and mild concerned seemed to dawn on her features as her eyes darted about.

Slowly, Natia threw the blanket off her form - it made a sound as it fell to the wooden ground - and she slowly placed her feet, one in front of the next, and picked up the pistol. They were still in a German town, in the middle of Germany. Surely no one could get past Captain Speirs or Major Winters or even the two Privates that stood guard at the front of HQ, but her thoughts ran wild and paranoia got the better of her.

Maybe it was the MPs, finally ready to drag her away, and let the SOE handle her for the rest of the war.

Maybe they were regretting letting her manage herself in war this long.

Natia returns in 1 week!

A pity story wouldn’t win in espionage.

" Let's start from the very beginning, Fidel, or should I say, Natia Filipska." the man said as Natia narrowed her eyes towards the man," You are of Polish blood, are you not?"

" I am." Natia said quickly," What's that have to do with waking me up at 3 in the morning?" The man behind the desk offered a pitiful smile in her direction and Natia grimaced; she seemed to have discovered in the past few months that she can't quite put on the best poker face as Ryzshard had called it.

" Your sister and brother, Klimeck and Ryzshard, respectfully, both cooperated and listened as I spoke, without a hint of sarcasm in their voice, so if you could do much of the same it would be greatly appreciated Miss Filipska." the man said and Natia clenched her jaw tighter at his words. Men with power enacting it upon the pawns that drained from enemy occupied countries. It made her skin crawl. She didn't react to his words - she knew he had wanted her to.

" Let's get started."

" I'm sure to speak to my brother and sister you didn't wake them at 3 in the morning." Natia couldn't help but comment.

" They didn't give a reason to." the man muttered and Natia stiffened," Let's get started. Describe to me the morning of September 1st if you would." Natia watched him, her pulse quickening at his words, her mind icing over and her hands becoming clammy. She watched to see if it were some sort of joke, a lie, a way to get under her skin. But his face drew on question and answer, nothing of deceit or the want to upset.

" 4:45 am I heard the sirens." Natia said quietly with a nod," They come from just outside my bedroom window on the first floor. I thought it were some sort of dream." Natia felt the onslaught of fresh tears overwhelm her vision and she hit herself in her head for getting emotional, for letting those emotions she felt take hold of her conversation. A pity story wouldn't win in espionage.

LANDSLIDE PART 3: A FAREWELL TO ARMS

BURY MY INNOCENCE, excerpt

" Agent Fidel." a voice called quietly and Natia whipped around, finding there amongst the trees, Agent Mortem with his cane, limping through the forest ground, eyes downcast and focused inherently upon her and the wolf which sat idly by her side," What have I told you before?" Natia clenched her jaw, slowly bringing up a trembling hand with the pistol locked inside it facing the Agent, her finger dancing on the trigger. She wanted it to end, she wanted it to be over, the nightmares, the voices - him.

" No." she said, her voice trembling," Leave me alone." Agent Mortem chuckled, stepping in front of her, glancing towards the graves to her side and then back to her.

" Wolves are not your friend, Agent Fidel, nor are they your ally. They remain your enemy, just as anyone in this war would be. They are all your enemies. Trust leads to attachment, attachment leads to imminent pain and distracts you from your goal of surviving this war. This wolf is not worth your time." Agent Mortem said quietly, his voice firm, yet barely above a whisper and made her insides boil. Natia barely flinched and instead shoved the muzzle of her pistol right into his side, staring right up at him, her gaze dark, her senses alert and her anger building.

" You don't get to decide how I plot my battles, how I wage my wars, you don't get to think you control me, every little insignificant bit of me - you don't get that." she spat, as something broke behind Agent Mortem's eyes, like the edges were melting. Just to see him squirm, she shoved the muzzle harder.

" Now leave me alone." she snapped quietly, her voice low - no need to get loud when it was already loud enough for the tension between mentor and protégé building.

" Wolves are supposed to be left untamed." Agent Mortem said, voice barely above a whisper, his gaze doting," And it seems the same goes for you."

Her eyes were staring at the wooden ceiling of the darkened barn, glowing in the corner where Lip lay awake, his gentle eyes keeping an attentive gaze on the sleeping soldiers in the proximity. Her heart ached - she wasn't quite sure why, like something was missing, this unknown feeling inside of her trying to crawl out all the sudden. 

She had tried for the most part to ignore it of course, any normal person would've done the same - she wasn't quite normal and she figured that's why it ached quite like it did. But she supposed that sleepless nights were normal at this point.

HELLO!! HAPPY LANDSLIDE DAY!!! and also happy friday! i hope everyone’s having a nice day and enjoying the weather (we’re getting closer and closer to spring!!). i for one am, it’s absolutely beautiful out! i’ve also been enjoying time really digging into some writing for landslide and a MAJOR PLOTPOINT + MINOR of bastogne for part 3 that i have planned as well! and to say it’s coming along nicely is an understatement! i’m just so hype for it! this chapter is a favorite of mine and was super fun to craft together and write a few months back so i hope you enjoy!!! <3 thank you all for reading and enjoying! happy reading! 💛

Special Operations Executive [SOE]

He was limping now more than ever before; she had assumed, by the way he sat down in his chair at night, a quiet groan leaving his lips as his fingers went to the bridge of his nose. The cane pushed much harder than before into the wooden surface of the ground and now outside it nearly sunk into the grass around them.

Hidden away just like they were back home was the best excuse the SOE could come up with for the Polish Agents deemed fit for service.

Of course, none of them were here, no, they had followed along like the good soldiers they were, as Natia, brazen as a bull, accepted ignorance as a drug, wore the long cloak of reluctance and tried to do minimal of what she could.

Agent Mortem saw differently.

Her pistol was held up in front of her face, pointed straight forward, her body rigid and pistol firm in her grasp. Her eyes were narrowed - she had seen Mortem do that quite often - she figured she would too. He always managed to seem so focused.

Agent Mortem stood by her side, smiling through his nasty British cigar which Natia had tried on occasion but found rather disgsusting if she was being honest.

But she had grown used to them in a way - not an acceptance, no - more of a numbness to it.

WIP Wednesday - I saw people doing this today and it looked SO FUN! (not like I haven’t done it before LOL but I haven’t done it in a long time so..) Go check out the others who did WIP Wednesday - I got some motivation to post and clear my brain!! And plus I think it’s time we finally reflect on Natia’s SOE training which formed her.

He was never kind, but I suppose it is from his time as a child, when others would laugh at him for the way he ran. Sideways, with a cane, he moved amongst the shadows of the schoolyard, cowering in their gazes, at the limp leg he’d been born with. He laughed years later in their faces when he managed to become an Agent and they hadn’t. It’s why I only ever worked with him in a secret study, his tips, his ideals, his morals, being tracked like a sensor in my mind. It’s why I was trained to be so deadly - because it was like he was seeing himself - all over again, in me.

hello!! i’m back again LOL but today i am here to say...

2 DAYS AWAY AHHHHH

a little nervous but i’m beyond excited!

today, i introduce a character, who personally is interesting to write from a flashback perspective. he will never be in the present, always a flashback, but he is part of the reason natia filipska is who she is today in war - it’s not just the war’s fault anymore.

his backstory i find fascinating and for many reasons. more of a minor character, he takes on the role of being a sort of mentor to natia, when she was struggling to keep up with the others while training for the SOE - agent mortem was the reason she became top of her group.

but will she ever thank him for that?
