Agent Salem - Biography
Name: Salem
Age: 32
Birthday: July 14th, 2506
Nationality: French
Salem’s most notable attributes include her large blue eyes, pale skin, bullet wound on her left shoulder, and near-costant red lips (due to lipstick). Her build is not impressively muscular, resulting in her lean hourglass figure. Additionally, she has light freckles which she prefers to cover by using a light face powder, though she does not indulge in this as often as she would like.
Salem wears the classic Spartan armor, with full Recon body and helmet. The body of her armor is red with steel and mauve detailing.
Team: Alpha
A.I.: Cancer (‘Candice’)
Specialization: Infiltration
Armor Enhancement: Holographic Projection
History:
Salem was born on the planet Harvest, to a family that included her mother, father, and one older sister. Her family’s business centered around food production, naturally - a business Salem had no desire to take part in. Finding more solace with her best friend and his family than with her own, Salem followed in his example when he made the decision to sign up with the UNSC. This outraged her family, as they believed that her place was with them and her role was to carry on with agricultural manufacturing, the trade of the planet. Prior to officially joining the UNSC, Salem revealed her love to her best friend, and the two became lovers while they were still both on Harvest. Upon officially joining the UNSC, Salem was stationed at various training bases on Earth, while her lover was stationed at a training base on Harvest. A mysterious man approached Salem after overhearing her discuss A.Is. The man, seemingly intrigued by her understanding and ideas regarding A.Is, informed her of a new division in the midst of development and a position that he was interested in recruiting her for. Unbeknownst to Salem, upon accepting the position, her lover was executed - though, by whom…that is, for now, unknown.
Personality:
A difficult character to place for most, Salem’s icy exterior is a mere reflection of the cold ambition held inside. Not one to frequently indulge in small talk, Salem constantly has her on her perceived prize - even when that prize is not one always shared by her male and female counterparts. Due to her observant nature, Salem finds ease, though not always enjoyment, in adaptation, regardless of her familiarity with the people or territory. This observance, of course, is a direct result of her frequent, self-induced quiet - which, in turn, is the result of the internal planning and plotting as to how Salem intends on attaining her goals. As often noted by both past and current familiars, her quiet aggression and fierce ambition give her a somewhat prickly, though confident, demeanor, which, ironically enough, makes it less likely for Salem to be accepted by her superiors, who mistake her perceived insecurities for arrogance. She is fully aware of the power and possibility for human error, though there are two terminals of reaction due to this. When an error is created on her account, Salem retreats within herself and becomes markedly sullen. However, when the error is found to be on account of another, Salem is usually one of the first to address and criticize the issue and its creator. On the rare occasions where the ice of her persona is broken, one can expect one of two reactions: a striking anger or a stirring warmth. She is not incredibly keen on social situations, though she develops an intense loyalty to those whom she considers true friends. A woman of relatively frequent biting words, Salem treats more than just her gear/equipment as a mask. Her entire being is the armor for the mystery that lies within.
Strengths/Weaknesses:
Strength: Quiet command of both situations and agents.
Strength: Ease in adaptation.
Strength: Strong work ethic.
Weakness: Salem’s cold exterior, which can cause difficulties between fellow agents, as well as her superiors.
Weakness: Her insecurities, which are frequently taken as arrogance.
Weakness: Salem’s ambition, which can negatively affect her relationships, but positively influence her work ethic.
Weakness: When infatuated, Salem can become easily distracted.
Likes:
Being ‘in-control’ of her own life; writing in her journal; reading 20th Century poetry; yoga, sketching blueprints; colder weather; being prepared for missions; discussing classic novels/poetry; red lipstick; nighttime walks/runs; cafe au lait; champagne; cigarettes.
Dislikes:
Not meeting her own personal expectations; having others not meet her expectations of them; overly-friendly/outgoing people; warm weather; not being able to concentrate; grammar mistakes (both of herself and of others); being flustered/hassled; revisiting/being forced to revisit the darker portions of her past.
Miscellaneous:
Family: Marlene and Mathis deMoisson (mother and father), Sylvie deMoisson (older sister); 'deMoisson' means 'of the harvest' in French
Past Name: Simone Odette deMoisson
Weapons: Salem’s weapon of choice is a basic Assault Rifle; she dislikes using the DMR, as it does not serve well in close-quarters combat. She is also skilled at wielding knives and swords. Relationships: Her relationship with A.I. Cancer can be considered a healthy working relationship. Both the agent and A.I. understand that they are to aid each other, and both respect each other’s ambitions.
Additional: Is fluent in French; often wears headscarves when not in her armor; has a metal cigarette case which once belonged to her father; harbors a small (and secret) crush on one of the agents; has a penchant for cursing
Headcanons:
Her bullet wound was gained at a particular low point in her career, where her team leader and superior outshined her in such a way that Salem became volatile and humiliated - a rarity, for the most part. With alcohol and discountenance of herself in her system, Salem was ready to pull the trigger. Startled by a noise, Salem fired and the bullet ricocheted, eventually hitting her shoulder. Salem pretends to be proud of her bullet wound, but is actually ashamed of it, though it does serve to remind her of a time she will never revisit. Additionally, she has never revealed the truth of the wound’s origins to anyone, and has simply named it as a ‘training accident’ Salem left behind a lover in preparation for her recruitment; much to her chagrin, Agent Concord reminds her of her past flame, unbeknownst to him. Salem was never extremely close to any members of her immediate family, and so finds no reason to forge contact with them. During her childhood, her older sister teased her for her ‘unconventional’ looks (as compared to the rest of her family) and her general disinterest in agriculture, thus resulting in Salem’s ambition and drive to prove herself better than her superiors, as well as her colleagues.
