agentchameleon asked: ♊ my muse will do something stupid to impress your muse
Noah hated public places. Absolutely hated them, mostly because he generally dislike people. But it's not always easy to avoid being out in public.
To tell the truth, he didn't really know what they were doing. All he knew was Avery wanted to spend the night on the town green because of some local band that was playing a free concert. But they weren't really watching the band. No, they were wandering around, checking out this booth and that. See, local businesses liked to set up shop on the green this time of year to sell their products, be it art, books, food, candles... the list could go on for ages.
They had come upon a booth that had managed to gather quote the crowd. It was a local restaurant that had become quite popular for its' spicy food from various different countries. At these kinds of events, they generally had some kind of challenge to attract people and eventually reel in customers. This challenge seemed more... entertaining.
"Ghost chile?" Noah raised a brow, eyes traveling from the sign to a man who seemed to be in quite a bit of pain - breathing heavily, sweat dripping down his face, soaking his dark green shirt.
"Yeah, it's supposed to be the hottest chile in the world. They're challenging people to eat a bowl of chili made out of those peppers," one particularly amused on-looker eexplained
"You should do it, Noah," Avery nudged him with her elbow. "Ya know, since you love spicy food."
Noah watched as the man continued to spiral downward. "I don't know..."
"What, are you scared?" Avery smiled, amused.
"No." Noah shook his head and stepped up to the booth, telling the man behind the table that he was going to take the challenge. Noah was, actually, a little scared. He liked spicy food, but nothing spicier than the hottest sauce Taco Bell offered. That was his limit. But he couldn't let Avery think he was too scared to each a simple bowl of chili.
There was a form he needed to sign, essentially stating that he was an idiot for taking the challenge. He was brought back to the table where the other man had finally given up, pushing the bowl away and taking a glass of milk.
He had to eat all of it - it was a small portion, but deadly - without anything to aid him. He had one glass of water. Once finished, he had to sit for five minutes and let the fire burn.
One bite in and he knew it was a huge mistake. Everything was burning. But he couldn't give up - he had to do this because he thought it would impress her. He had a terrible and inconvenient need ti impress anyone and everyone.
He had been in quite a few fights in his time - even ended up in the hospital because of some - but no injury hes ever sustained would compare to the pain inflicted by the chili.
He finished half of it before giving up and taking the milk. It was the farthest anyone had managed to get at any point in the night.
"You didn't have to do it, Noah" Avery was very obviously trying to conceal her laughter.
Noah just looked at her, continuing to drink the milk.
"I don't think anyone else is going to beat you." "They better not." Was he pouting? "You're going to regret this all night. How about some ice cream? That should help." "It better help."
