Auntie Jilli! I haven't been around the subculture long (or your social media for that matter!) so this might warrant a huff & puff from you but what exactly is it that you do? What is a technical writer?

I write documentation for software. This involves translating developer and project manager -speak into something that can be used by someone who hasn’t been involved with building the software from the ground up. 

It has nothing to do with the subculture, other than jobs in the tech industry are good for goths, as there’s frequently no dress code!
