A new survey found that kids find it easy to bypass age checks, despite a rise in age-verification laws around the world.
Some age-verification systems are no match for enterprising children, who have found that drawing on a fake mustache with a makeup pencil is enough to skirt the blocks of adult websites.
Update:🚨 Exposing The Problems with The “Official” Huniepop Discord Server
(TW: Fandom Drama, Predatory Behavior, Minors, NSFW content, AI art theft)
I haven’t posted about this on Tumblr before, but after the Ai situation with Ninamo coming to light and months of trying to expose it, I felt like this would be the next best platform to reach more HuniePop fans/artists and alert people in general about the current situation.
I’ve personally been a fan of HuniePop since 2015, and was part of the community starting in 2018 when I created the Huniecord Discord server. I took a step back from the fandom for a while, but recently returned, only to find that the current state of the community is disturbing and unrecognizable between individuals harassing me personally cross platform for opposing opinions or to just create tension and drama out of boredom.
The Huniepotheads Discord server, which is still linked on the official HuniePot site, is not a safe space, and honestly should not be connected to the game at all.
🧷 Here’s what’s going on:
-The server is run by a user named Lounger, who is known to be in charge.
-He has made explicitly inappropriate and indefensible statements about pedophilia and defending pedophilia. (proof here)
-The server has a “v-card” role specifically for minors who have been caught as members, in a space where NSFW content is freely accessible. (even given this role it blocks out NSFW channels but not adult conversations they have in the server about sex and explicit conversations when minors shouldn't even be there in the first place.
-There’s no real age verification, which means minors can easily access pornography and can lie dormant and lurk without saying anything and witness adult conversations about sex even after being given a "V-card" role which is highly disturbing to be even giving a minor a role like that let alone letting them stay in a porn game server.
Lounger had also been creating AI art of official HuniePop art without the artist's consent.
At first I thought it wasn't a big deal and even was curious or thought Huniepop/ AI art in general was "Cool" until I saw all the ethical problems and the fact it was literally infringing on artist's rights and affecting the environment.
🎨 Artist response: I personally reached out to Ninamo directly July 2025, and she made it clear she did not give permission for her art to be used in AI generation.
Into December 2025, AI generated content of Ninamo's art was still being made after this post saying to stop.
Luckily, as of January 2026, although an admin tried to make it seem like "they've personally spoke and respected their wishes" being a good samaritan, taking credit for speaking to Ninamo about the AI content being made in Huniepotheads, The Ai Hunies discord chat has FINALLY been stopped. ❤️🩹
🦋 Kyu's Voice Actress response:
Jaclyn Aimee, the voice actress for Kyu in HuniePop, also shared her thoughts on the situation, stressing that it shouldn’t be taken lightly. She acknowledged how difficult it can be when the “good ones” don’t always see justice, but reminded the community that negativity often reflects more about the people spreading it than the person it’s directed at. Sometimes we’re unable to control the actions of others, and the only thing we can do is live our lives as the morally well-intentioned beings that we are. She encouraged us not to let this weigh down their kindness and passion, but instead to recognize that standing up to issues like this only shows how big of a person we truly are. Her message was clear:
📢 Spreading awareness:
we've been trying to raise this issue in other spaces too, including reaching out to creators like Wondering Muse who made a video discussing the situation:
💬 What we’re doing about it: Because of all this, Huniecord was revived. We’ve created a space that:
Requires real 18+ ID age verification (Any ID's sent for verification are through a ticket system bot which deletes any images sent after ticket is closed. Nobody can re-access them.)
Is closely actively moderated and predator-free
Keeps the fandom respectful of artists and safe for real fans
Encourages the same fun, silly, and supportive vibe HuniePop was originally loved for
Many of us, longtime fans who remember the early days, are devastated to see the official community fall into this state. The fandom deserves better. The artists deserve better. And the dev should know and be held accountable to stop what’s going on in a server still carrying his brand.
ADDED NOTE: This is in no way an accusation/dig at the Dev himself. Although some of the accountably of what's happening in his game fandom should fall on him in my personal opinion with knowing the owner of the server and who's running his community, It’s the owner of the server who is the problem. Do not go harassing the creator of the game, reflecting blame, or try to paint a picture that’s false of what I’m trying to expose.
UPDATE: Huniedev has responded but no action has been taken whatsoever and minors are still being allowed into the server and to stay in the server.
Note: I do not condone or support any harassment whatsoever of the mentions above!!!! 🛑
Platforms are caught in a dilemma: enforce age restrictions or protect user privacy. How are they navigating this tricky terrain?
In cases when regulators demand real enforcement rather than symbolic rules, platforms run into a basic technical problem. The only way to prove that someone is old enough to use a site is to collect personal data about who they are. And the only way to prove that you checked is to keep the data indefinitely. Age-restriction laws push platforms toward intrusive verification systems that often directly conflict with modern data-privacy law.
This is the age-verification trap. Strong enforcement of age rules undermines data privacy.
The problem is age-gating doesn’t do what it promises—protect children from harms—instead it opens adults to more surveillance capitalism (all of the verification services are for-profit) At best it’s ineffective corruption. At worst it’s used to surveillance and target specific demographics

A new Mississippi law requires us to block full access to Bluesky unless all users complete age checks. We have concerns about this law’s implementation.
We believe effective child safety policies should be carefully tailored to address real harms, without creating huge obstacles for smaller providers and resulting in negative consequences for free expression. That’s why until legal challenges to this law are resolved, we’ve made the difficult decision to block access from Mississippi IP addresses. We know this is disappointing for our users in Mississippi, but we believe this is a necessary measure while the courts review the legal arguments.
All these efforts fail to protect children from the actual harms of the online world, and instead deny vulnerable young people a crucial avenue of communication and access to information. And at a time when LGBTQ+ individuals are already under vast pressure from violent homophobic threats offline, these online limitations have an amplified impact.
Age-Verification Laws Seek to Erase LGBTQ+ Identity from the Internet
