Until Now (Teen!Sam x Reader)
When I was little, I asked my mother, “How did you know you were going to marry daddy?” And what she replied was something that every little girl didn’t expect to hear, “Well,” she started, smiling gently at me like she knew this moment would come, “I remember it clearly like it was yesterday, my heart was beating weirdly in my chest and how we looked at each other… It was a different feeling altogether…” As much as she tried to explain, I never really understood.
Until now.
In the starry night, the lake reflecting the moon beside us as his pleading eyes and his welcoming hand, urges me for the billionth time. “I don’t dance.” I tell him again, staring up at him as he shrugs. His hair drops slightly and he blows it away from his face.
“I don’t either, but you don’t see me complaining, do you?” He urges his hand one more time and I take some time before considering it. I feel his soft palms into mine and I immediately start to regret it. We’ve been friends for as long as I can remember, but we’ve only been romantic for a few weeks and it’s still a thought I’m getting used to.
He leads us to the edge of the lake, the water splashing gently onto the ground helps me calm down, but my cheeks are still flaming as my long hair curtains them. I feel him look at me as I keep my stare onto the swaying grass, not daring to meet his eyes. He places his hand on my chin, turning my head to look at him. “Hey, it’s just you and me here.” He says, giving me a reassuring smile that I can’t help smiling back.
“Okay.” I whisper, trusting him wholeheartedly. He places his hand on my back while placing mine onto his shoulder, holding the other one into his. We don’t dare to look at each other as we’re starting to sway with the crickets singing, the trees rustling and the breeze whistling gently in our ears being our only source of music. I have thought that since we’ve been “together” for quite some time now, maybe I need to start becoming more comfortable around him. As I rest my head onto his chest, I hear his beating heart and I’m feeling a little lighter knowing that I’m not the only one nervous in this situation.
That’s when I hear my own, beating with unfamiliarity and my mother’s voice echoes softly around me. My heart was beating weirdly in my chest. Over and over again like a broken record that I cannot help but look up at him, seeing his eyes gleaming from the stars and how beautiful the moon shined on his skin, enhancing his freckles like they’re the stars and he’s the universe.
He looks down at me and my mother’s voice comes in again. How we looked at each other. My breath is taken away as we stand here, motionless, dazed from each other’s eyes and not letting go of our stare. I analyze him, trying to find out what he’s thinking; but as much as I did, it was an impossible task to fulfill. I feel his hand tremble in mine but he lets go and place it on my cheek, the other still resting on my back.
“I… Haven’t…” He trails off, looking away from me and staring onto the lake. I see his eyes looking deeply on the other side, taking in a deep breath as he looks back at me. For a moment, I didn’t really know what was happening until I started to feel his soft lips crashing into mine. Everything around us silenced: no trees were rustling; no crickets were singing; no splashing was heard from the lake. Except for the voice of my mother, It was a different feeling altogether.
Never have I thought that I would understand my babbling mother. That’s until a teenage boy introduced himself to me as Sam Morgan, enter my heart, kiss me by the lake and send me flying this one, beautiful night.
Breaking away from that forever lasting spell, we merely looked at each other but I glance away quickly, ashamed that he will see my red cheeks. The noise of nature has come back and I feel myself land softly onto my feet after that skyrocketing moment. My gut still churns in my stomach, but it goes away when he turns my head to look at him again.
He draws in a breath, “I love you.” He says and I stand there frozen, not being able to comprehend what he had just said. I feel myself stumble on the ground beneath me, crawling into the pit of darkness knowing that it’s my turn to say it.
“I… I-I love you, too…” I stutter, gulping afterwards to ease the rhythmic beat in my throat. He smiles at me, pulling me into his arms and twirling me around that I cannot help but to squeal and laugh from this ecstatic moment.
I never really understood what my mother meant.
Until now.
