Amazing color transformation by Kim Coffin. Our guest wanted to get rid of the red and get to a non-committal color that she will not have to be in the salon touching up all of the time. Her natural level of hair is a beautiful, sandy 7-8, with a good bit of gray just around her face. I decided to do a color melt off of her natural color with heavy hilights around her face. Color transformations like this take multiple appointments, but we got this difficult deep red out to this sandy blonde in one sitting (10+ hours). This is a commitment for both stylist and client. However, being patient for the final end results pays off. Professional reconstructing needs to happen at home, (Tiger Reconstructor) and a strong violet shampoo and conditioner is used at home as well. After a few days or weeks, depending on the amount of color fade, another glaze will be applied to adjust any areas. For me, the key to creating an organic, soft looking hairstyle is not to overthink it, and not to force it. . . There are so many factors to consider when creating a hairstyle - color, cut, texture, even the weather - that I rarely style it exactly the same twice. During a preview with a bride, I listen to their thoughts, and look at their inspiration, and really try to connect with their vision to create an aesthetic that works with and for them. After the preview, I study the photos, and take note of areas of opportunity, so when I arrive the day of the wedding, I focus less on forcing the hair to look exactly as it did the day of the trial, and more on making sure to incorporate our favorite elements of the original style, while allowing the hair and the magic of the day to show me where to go. . . .
