openly: dave loves messing with john and pushing him around some. hes just the extra additive in his life that makes his life normal and stable without really being all that normal to begin with. and he wont lie about the fact that he definitely takes advantage of all the services john offers; he loves his cooking. but he never means any harm by anything he says or does towards him.
secretly: to be honest, at first dave didnt exactly feel comfortable about john living with them since he felt like he was just showing up out of no where and didnt get what was going on between bro and him (he still doesnt). even now is still weary about it at times since theres an obvious difference between the relationship bro and john hold and it can feel strained at times. but he doesnt mind john as much now, he just thinks of him as another part of the household in a sense. hes not necessary a strider in daves mind but he doesnt look at him as “another john.” he doesnt even feel like a john alternate at times. hes just his little french fry who takes care of / picks up after him when dave cant be assed to do it himself. dave considers him close, meaning he cares about him too, but in a different way than most other people in his life since their relationship is slightly unorthodox.
