Just finished the testaments and it is really good!!! It actually made me want to rewatch and/or finish handmaid’s tale, which tbh I thought I’d never get around to doing. Solid follow up to the original story, great cast, and a fascinating return to the not-quite-fictional-enough gilead.

Because I am me I would now like to talk about shipping SORRY I KNOW IT’S NOT THE POINT OK I KNOW anyway

This show offers a very interesting array of possibilities! In order of canonicity:

Agnes/Garth - oh she is down BAD bad… took me a while to buy this as reciprocated, but towards the last few eps they spent enough time on his big sad eyes gazing into her big sad eyes that I was like ok yeah that’s some mutual yearning right there

Agnes/Becka - I assume this is the fan favourite ship… and yeah look it’s hard to beat ‘I murdered my rapist father with pruning shears because he touched you, and my sapphic love and longing for you is god’s light to me’ like FUCK ok that’s intense !!! Again, I didn’t think this was reciprocated and I’m still not fully sure, but that kiss before becka’s wedding made me think it probably is… which brings me to…

Becka/Agnes/Garth - look if there is a plausible polyship I am SAT and this one is more than just plausible, it’s practically already happening! I’m a sucker for polyships where the sad gay and their romantic rival actually end up really close, not realising that the person they’re fighting over is pining for them both. Well, you can’t get much closer than marriage! And it did NOT escape my notice that Becka was either involved or paralleled with every romantic framing the show gave Agnes/garth. I mean jfc that dream sequence with all three of them in one shot??? It’s all very meljayvik but if Mel/viktor were in an arranged marriage. 10/10 good shit !!!

Garth/daisy - look they have mad chemistry… like tbh maybe the most chemistry on the show. Every time she got up in his face demanding he protect the girls better and calling him a pussy and declaring that she would fucking do it herself then, I could SEE him thinking about kissing her. I mean maybe I’m just projecting because I absolutely would have been thinking about kissing her in his position but still! So anyway yeah daisy can join the polycule I guess, which brings me to…

Daisy/becka - ok this one is a reach but for a little while I really wondered if this might happen. Bisexual daisy FEELS like a canon fact to me in my heart. I know Becka is devotedly in love with Agnes, but idk her and daisy kinda had some vibes sometimes! I don’t think this will happen but if it does I called it kthxbye

Shu/everything good in the world - yeah I just love her ok

WILD CARD - I don’t ship this per se BUT did anyone else think commander judd and aunt vidala had some kinda vibes between them or was that just me…? Probably was just me hey

That’s all but yeah would definitely recommend the show! There is SO much more to it than these silly ships I promise

i think it’s fun that Garth gets stupid whenever Agnes is talking to him

like there’s no thoughts behind his eyes

in the “do i have a personality” scene where he blanks and then just goes: “yes! yes! i see it!”

and in the finale where she tracks him down at the guardian barracks, he’s first like: “i don’t think i can do that” cause the woman you’re in love with is staring you in the eyes asking you to marry someone else, but he does it

i love how the second that Daisy mentioned the idea of Agnes being in love with him to Garth, you can see his brain go:

“Oh. My. God! That was an option, I didn’t know I could do that!”

Then he immediately starts being like:

“Fuuucckkk, falling in love WAS NOT in the plans”

garth dancing with agnes at the ball— knowing that it’s false hope

garth getting to steal touches from agnes during their dance knowing that he’s likely to never have a chance to touch her again

garth watching agnes take a drag of his cigarette knowing that he shouldn’t enjoy it

garth being asked if by agnes about her personality and him affirming for her immediately

garth quietly congratulating agnes on her engagement and not being able to look her in the eyes

garth sitting there letting agnes push, shove and punch him because he knew she was heartbroken and angry and confused

garth hugging her in public despite knowing that any contact between them could get the both of them punished

garth defending his decision to (emotionally) protect agnes to aunt este

garth promising to marry becka for agnes— because she asked him to

garth looking at agnes for the entire duration of his wedding— making his vows to her more than anything

garth is a yearner, you know that his journal is full of emotional turmoil and ego-death ten times over

he’s so in love with her— he’s just a scaredy cat because he’s grown up in gilead and is a rule follower at heart, he doesn’t know what he’s doing
