the courtyard of the alte feuerwache is now finished and more beautiful than before. for a year it was a place of temporary solutions, but despite the construction site it was always an oasis in the lively neighbourhood.

inzwischen ist der hof der alten feuerwache fertig und schöner als zuvor. ein jahr lang war es ein ort der interimslösungen, aber trotz baustelle immer eine oase im quirligen veedel.

at the inconspicuous beginning of niehler straße, lively postmodernism is hidden. here it quotes the surrounding gründerzeit architecture or that which was located here before the war.

ganz am unscheinbaren anfang der niehler straße versteckt sich beschwingte postmoderne. sie zitiert hier die sie umgebende gründerzeitarchitektur beziehungsweise die die sich an dieser stelle vor dem krieg befand.

zu laubtragenden zeiten sind die strukturen allerdings kaum sichtbar, der herbst lässt dann aber so manches entdecken.

balthasarstraße // köln agnesviertel

simple post-war modern façades characterise large parts of cologne's city centre, which was largely destroyed in the second world war. this is also the case in the agnesviertel. balthasarstrasse roughly forms the border to the old town as far as the destruction is concerned; in the direction of nippes, the pre-war buildings remain almost unchanged from the following streets onwards. i had already published two façades in another context when it was about discovering balthasarstraße (tinyurl.com/34tj8v67) the third was added now. from white to blue to red.

meister lampe & the lion

i've known the lion since I lived in the ggnes district, when corona was there he also wore a mouth and nose protector. i can only recommend the shop below "meister lampe", the best fries in the veedel with super-licky homemade sauces. and for meat lovers there are also plate-sized schnitzels and spit-roast. everything is regional and organic, just as it should be.
