Lewis thinking that Seb only allows him close like that because of their professional relationship, Seb thinking that Lewis only stays close like that because he's supposed to. When really! It's not about that at all, or at least not anymore, and - the pining! The aching! ON BOTH SIDES. Without even knowing ~
exaaaaactly!! it's also about lewis's sense of DUTY and honor and responsibility! seb thinks lewis is only looking because it's his job and then once they become familiar and friendly and tbh dependent and seb realizes MAYBE ITS MORE. and he drunkenly tries to kiss lewis on his doorstep but lewis stops him. and seb thinks well. maybe i was right all along. it was only ever lewis's job to protect me. ALL THE WHILE the only reason lewis CAN'T let himself have seb! can't let them do this! is bc of his DUTY TO PROTECT. his responsibility is to sebastian and protecting him so he can't cross that line. no matter how badly he wants to. it's two heartbreaking sides of the same devastating coin :(
oh then they pine and pine and it's all very miserable and they're very sad but trying to act like it's all fine. lewis still does his job, lewis still watches. seb still feels his gaze and wishes things were different and! it's agonizing!!!
