Karim’s eyes widened as he listened to Agron’s words. Surely he couldn’t mean those words? Had they not told him?
The thought of Agron having been pushed into this without knowing anything was making Karim feel even worse. Absent choice, both of them, and no way back.
“They…” Karim lowered his gaze. It was worse than he feared. “They did not tell you…” He closed his eyes for a moment. “But you do know I am the first son of my father’s first wife, so it should be me taking the reins from him once he leaves this world. Yet this…” he hesitated. He did not want to make another disappointment out of himself. But it was impossible not to tell Agron what he was.
“It is a curse,” he continued, without looking up. “The midwife who helped me into this world screamed something about my face and dropped dead moments later. They never gave me to my mother, and as a child, my minders were all blind so they could not lay eyes upon my face.”
He finally forced himself to look up. “At night I sleep with a mask of fabric so no one can ever accidentally glance at my face, but after our wedding night you will never have to lie beside me again.”
@agron-rebel-general
No. Apparently they did not tell him. And that only fell into Agron’s irritation that they withheld such details from him. He did know of Karim’s position.They had used such information in attempt to justify the reasons for this union. Agron had remained displeased but now . . . there was a whole other element of curiosity and uncertainty. And the way that Karim explained the tell, made Agron feel . . . nervous. And the fact that he told him he would never have to lie with him again . . . well, it was quite unsettling to hear. “There is no love felt for the other within this union,” Agron began to say, bringing back to light his earlier words of him not loving the man. And well, obviously it was similarly felt by Karim. You could not love someone you did not know.
“The reveal of your face will not change that, for better or worse.” Now it was Agron who took a step towards the still veiled Karim. “I am fucking loyal to my tribe. To my people. And thus, to this union. I will not stray from it despite what remains under veil.” He wasn’t sure if that was reassuring or not. Whether it was meant to be either. It was simple . . . fact. Of course he had wondered what his soon to be husband would look like. But it would certainly not play into whether Agron loved him or not. They were but two strangers, preparing to spend the remainder of their days together.

22. An interrupted kiss by none other than my muse’s pet
Last night had been the first time that Karim spent the night at Agron’s place . . . and it had been incredible. He had planned the date out, starting with a home cooked meal, trying to make the setting as romantic as possible. Fortunately, everything went incredibly well. Only recently had they taken their relationship to the next level. The . . . physical level. Agron hadn’t felt this way about anyone and the fact that Karim inspired such feelings within him . . . made Agron feel happier than he ever had before. The vigorous night had them sleeping well into the morning -- with neither of them having to work the next day. So Agron enjoyed it, his arm around Karim as the smaller male was nestled against his chest. The slow stirring of consciousness, a soft smile upon Agron’s lips as he greeted the other in a morning kiss.
Slow, building . . . as the embrace deepened with other parts of them starting to wake up. Agron very slowly started to shift their positions, a slow breath escaping him as his hand started to trail down Karim’s chest, and lower still . . . until a sudden interruption immediately broke their connection lips. One of Agron’s cats leaped up at his face, a gentle swat of his paw at the neglect of last night. “Fuck!” Agron exclaimed in surprise at the sudden presence of the feline. “Such a fucking entrance,” Agron grumbled as the animal began to settle in the small space between Agron and Karim.

| Soulmates |
Continued from X
The warmth of Karim’s touch, tracing along his skin was a comfort unlike any other. So . . . unfamiliar. But then, it made sense. Agron had after all never met his soulmate before. He looked at the man through heavily lidded eyes, using what little strength he had to remain conscious. His assurances that he was here, encouraging him to rest . . . that he found him, only weighed the guilt heavier within Agron’s chest. The state he had found him was . . . far from ideal. And Agron fucking hated it. Karim would come and Agron would be utterly useless -- maybe forever. And then what? Everyone always thought of the day they would meet their soulmate and here was Karim’s: injured in a hospital bed. But the defiance in his mind remained there: inside. For he was losing the battle of sleep and the other man’s softly spoken words were lulling him into a slumber . . . eventually succumbing to it despite his best efforts.
The days that followed involved Agron’s healing. It was a slow process, but made easier with the presence of his family, and Karim. He could see the way his mother and brother so easily got along with him, and it made Agron’s heart swell with emotion. Still unexpressed emotion, for while he was gaining a little more strength each day, it was still not enough to talk. Small words were offered here and there, but nothing that allowed him to carry an actual conversation. Doctors continued to run tests, telling him about his condition. The possible outcomes. Agron just tried to take it all in, so very ready to get out of this fucking place.
And Agron was finally able to vocalize his desire for it. He woke up one day, having a bit more strength to talk than the past ones, so by the time Karim came at his usual time . . . Agron sat up a little, a small smile forming upon his lips. The eagerness to talk to the man before him had been building in all this time. And he couldn’t fucking wait. “Karim.” A foreign word to his lips for he had yet to actually say it . . . and yet, it felt so natural to utter. His mother seemed to take that as a cue as the left the room, allowing him some private time with his soulmate. His voice was still hoarse, but, at least he had one. “I’m . . . so sorry.” It was the first thing Agron had wanted to say to him ever since he found out they were soulmates, immediately after waking up. Apology. For his state. For all of this. For . . . surely not being what Karim had expected to find when his timer hit zero.
