By most estimates, over 2.3 million limestone blocks were used to construct this magnificent monument. The blocks were of varying sizes, some weighing as much as 20 tons. Several surveys conducted since the 19th century have proven that the pyramid is aligned to the cardinal points (north, south, east, and west) with remarkable accuracy. At an initial height of 147.5 meters, this feat of engineering remained the tallest man-made structure anywhere in the world for over 3,800 years. "The historical origin of geometry, which goes back to the Egyptians, supplies one of the many instances in which intellectual discoveries have grown from material needs. The annual floods of the Nile which fertilized the soil of Egypt brought trouble to landowners: the borderlines of their estates were destroyed every year and had to be reestablished by means of geometrical measurements. The geographical and social conditions of their country, therefore, compelled the Egyptians to invent the art of surveying. Geometry thus arose as an empirical science, whose laws were the results of observations. For instance, the Egyptians knew from practical experience that if they made a triangle the sides of which were respectively 3, 4, and 5 units long it would be a right triangle. The deductive proof for this result was provided much later by Pythagoras, whose famous theorem explains the Egyptian findings by the fact that the sum of the squares of 3 and 4 is equal to the square of 5." #egyptology_misr #Egypte #Agypten #Egipt #Egipto #Egitto #Египет #مصر #मिस्र #エジプト #埃及 #Egypten #Visit_Egypt #discover_Egypt #Experience_Egypt #diving #socialmedia #egypt #iloveegypt #luxor #karnak #mylifesamovie #mylifesatravelmovie #travelblog #travelblogger #solotravel #wanderlust #gopro #egyptology #ancientegypt (at Great Sphinx of Giza) https://www.instagram.com/p/CVgEddSrFLt/?utm_medium=tumblr
