it was as if the world could anticipate what was about to happen. the sky had taken a pregnant pause just as the clouds rolled in over central london, brimming with the potential of a downpour. somewhere thunder rolled. black was the prevailing color of the day, whether in somber preparation of what needed to be done or in resolute mourning of the already fallen comrade they shared. two opposing forces met in the street. it was calantha who gave the first command. it began.
it was quiet at first. colors burst in bright symphony behind the woman who stood a dark silhouette amongst her forces. paris gave a sharp order in return and those loyal to him rebutted. wand met wand out in the open street. the morning filled with battle cries and precisely called curses. it filled with the wails of those who fell in the fighting and the innocent who had wandered from the safety of their homes into the street. it was quiet no more as the bloodshed built. the noise drawing more people into the line of fire and creating more noise in some horrible cycle of tragedy. familiar faces of the order began to blink into the street corners, barking commands for shelter and evacuation for the innocent, just as calantha and paris, with their most trusted disappeared from sight. this had just been the distraction.
the storm was already raging on the island where azkaban stood when calantha and paris arrived in wisps of black smoke. the dark lord sought to free his captivated deranged from the dementors and return them to his service. the two death eater commanders turned on each other and began to cast their own curses. each determined that only one would survive to reap the glory of the day. yet waiting as the last line of defense to the prison was a handful of the order elite. fabian had warned dorcas in plenty of time to organize their arrival. dorcas stood defiantly at the point of the front line. she pointed a wand at calantha, but calantha cast first. a curse as white, hot, and blinding as the birth of a sun shot like a comet from her wand not at dorcas, but instead at paris. it struck him in the face. paris went down.
calantha turned on dorcas. fabian reluctantly turned away to hold the line. dorcas was already moving like a fire burning across a field. the second battle ensued. this one much different from the one raging in town. despite the rain beating down, the bolts of lightning overhead and shot as weapons, the mud that kicked up and covered the fabric and faces of those fighting, despite the order given with outright authority and the warnings issued from one friend to another, this battle was quiet. it only grew quieter as they fell.
dorcas drew first blood, but calantha secured the high ground. the tide of the battle turned. the order, although smaller in number, managed to push back both death eater forces with their singular cause. the dementors circled as if preparing for a buffet. dorcas raised her wand to dispatch calantha when paris suddenly returned to action. he was bleeding from the eyes which now appeared as stark white as the curse which had struck him. the blast he cast from his wand was enough to knock out three cell walls on the prison, calantha from her feet, and dorcas off the edge of the cliff behind her.
calantha scrambled to return to her feet, but fabian paralyzed her as he approached, calling commands now to the remaining order. calantha attempted a final show of bravado with a barbed taunt, but paris never gave her the opportunity. his retribution was swift and clear as the killing curse that illuminated them both in a ghastly green which he could no longer see. calantha fell dead at his back while paris called for his forces to pull out of the fighting. soon after, calantha's forces abandoned it with no leader. the order returned to end the battle in town and begin searching for survivors.
the battle has arrived. the dark lord had commanded his second in command to conduct an azkaban break, and paris and his followers intercepted. the order was tipped off (by who?) and the battles were bloody and catastrophic. many muggles have been exposed to magic, and the ministry isn’t sure they can cover up two separate battles of such magnitudes.a handful of death eater loyalists were broken out from the prison, but few escaped without a scratch. many lives were lost on all sides, and both central london and azkaban were damaged extensively.
