RE: PHOBIA DRABBLE PROMPTS ( accepting! )FWD: @ahndidas
Chronophobia: AU drabble about our muses in a different time era.
Jonghyun never thought that he’d end up where he is now– nothing more than the driver of a crime boss. He always thought his life would turn out differently. That he’d grow up to be a lawyer, or a doctor, or a policeman. Something like that. Something respectable. Yet, here he was instead. A lowly driver. A lowly driver to a criminal. And he wasn’t even important enough to drive the boss himself around. Instead, he was tasked with chauffeuring the boss’s younger brother, Ahn Jaewon.
Jaewon was… different from what one might expect him to be. He didn’t act as a member of a mob, per say. To anyone who didn’t know any better, he was just a regular boy. He was polite. He didn’t come across as dangerous– but he was demanding. Very demanding. And it was Jonghyun who bore the brunt of it, being forced to fulfill every single whim and desire off his de-facto boss.
It started off easy at first. Jaewon would tell him to go buy various sweets, or coffees. It was annoying to always be running to a cafe, but at least it was bearable. Then it started escalating a bit, with Jaewon asking Jonghyun to drive him around randomly, and to places that the older Ahn brother hadn’t cleared with Jonghyun. The male was a bit skeptical about those parts, but he didn’t want to incur the wrath of Jaewon. So he listened– besides, who was going to rat him out to the big boss? It was just him and Jaewon, after all.
Overtime, though, Jonghyun began getting more and more annoyed with Jaewon’s constant commands. It wasn’t easy to keep up with the boy. At this point, it wasn’t even like he was a driver for the male anymore. It was more like he was Jaewon’s butler, with the amount of work the shorter had him doing. Jonghyun didn’t like it. Not at all. And that was apparent in his attitude.
Jaewon wasn’t stupid. He picked up on his chauffeur’s change in demeanor– how Jonghyun seemed to roll his eyes whenever he issued a request, or ow Jonghyun seemed to complete his tasks at a much slower speed. Jaewon wasn’t stupid, after all. He knew something was up. And so he decided to confront Jonghyun.
“Do you not like me or something?” Straightforward and to-the-point. Classic Jaewon. He was never one for excessive detail, anyways. “Because I don’t think you do. You’re not very good at hiding your emotions, you know.”
Jonghyun knows. But he had hoped Jaewon wouldn’t pick up on it.
He remained silent for several moments, contemplating his answer. This wasn’t just any regular job he could so plainly quit, after all. He had been involved with the Ahn brothers for too long now. If he just decided to leave, he’d most likely be killed to protect their secrets.
Quitting isn’t exactly an option.
“Of course I like you.” He smiles at the other with an air of false sweetness, as if that would make the situation better. “You’re my boss. I have to like you, right?” He’s lying, of course. But Jaewon can’t know that.
“Bullshit.” Okay, so Jaewon knows he’s lying. The smaller has a cocky smile on his face, and he approaches Jonghyun, as if he’s an animal stalking its prey. The boy reaches out, poking Jonghyun in the chest, and his grin only grows wider when he sees the other recoil. He’s reveling in the taller’s reaction– as if he sees the boy’s indifference towards him as a challenge.
“You don’t like me at all.” His words ring out around them. Jonghyun simply stares down at Jaewon, as if waiting for a command. What was he supposed to do anyways? Affirm the other’s words? That would only lead to him losing his job (and possibly his life), right? Or was he supposed to deny them? But Jaewon already knew he was lying. What was the point in trying to convince him otherwise?
Before he could speak, the shorter male began to talk once more.
“It’s okay if you don’t like me.” That was a surprise– definitely not what Jonghyun had been expecting. “Because I’ll make you like me. Don’t try to fight it, okay? I predict that... we’ll be really friendly in the future.”
And then Jaewon smiles at him, before pivoting on his heels and walking off.
What that was supposed to mean– Jonghyun had no idea.
