As much as I adore Michael Langdon, Cordelia doesn't get enough credit for looking the Antichrist right in the face, and telling him "you're a spoiled brat and a baby."

Thinking of AHS 10 theories to go along with the sharp teeth clue.. I was looking into cryptid’s (local folklore monster) of Massachusetts and there’s one called Beast of Truro in Cape Cod that was sited in the 80’s. Here’s a New York Times archived article about it from 1982. Local animals were being found mauled and mangled and no one could trace to what. Maybe this season they, and we, will be tracking down a killer or monster linked to a towns folklore coming back to haunt this town.
'BEAST OF TRURO' MYSTIFYING CAPE COD
The Cape Cod town of Truro is right next to Provincetown, where season 10 is being filmed. And it has its very own lighthouse.
Friendly reminder that Michael Langdon was
Abused and abandoned by one mother figure whom he later found dead (Constance)
Disowned by his actual mother (Vivien)
Disowned by one father (Tate)
Abandoned by another (Satan)
Disowned by a third father figure (Ben)
Had another mother figure (Miriam) brutally murdered--once in front of him.
Where I’m going with this is that someone needs to give this boy a loving home.
AHS: 1984 Thoughts
So I finished the first two episodes of AHS: 1984...It’s so campy and cringey that I roll my eyes and laugh at the same time.
I feel like certain spots are over-the-top and overacted but that’s what kept me entertained. It’s different from previous seasons which I like.
Definitely has that vintage slasher movie motif where you think ‘how can anyone enjoy this “poorly” (I use that term very loosely) crafted/edited/acted film?’ but I really do. And those slasher movies have ultimately become cult classics. I’m not saying that’s what this season of AHS will become but it’s a nice change for the series.
I replayed Violet calling out to Tate, and him immediately running to her, five times.
Cult thoughts under the cut.
This is going to run long (when in history has it not?), but I’ve put a fair bit of thought into it and I’d like to get some stuff out.
If I’m not thinking of things on a writing platform, I’m thinking sociopolitically. How, in a season emphasizing the 2016 election, could I not come into it thinking about politics? I have spent Tuesday nights for the past 13 weeks weighing my own thoughts on our social climate and on politics and I’ve approached this season with way too much hope than it was due.
Media is diversifying. It’s really evident when you look at shows that seem like they’re heading in progressive places, and I kind of peg Netflix for spearheading the trend. Orange is the new black, Orphan Black, past seasons of American Horror Story, I’m sure we can all name at least three shows with a vibe that aligns with where we stand politically. Is it safe to assume tumblr is mostly a liberal zone? I have no idea... But those shows fit my lesbian feminist bill of the kind of tv I want to watch. I feel like it’s sufficient to say that if you’re under thirty these days, you’re looking for something diverse that cares about what you care about.
Which is why I’ve had such a god awful time.
I know I’ve preached a similar rhetoric to Ivy and Winter, and that’s not to say that has changed at all. Hell, to some extent I can even relate to Ally and Beverly a teensy bit. But I take a very immense issue (for all our sakes really) with the way this show has made well-meaning people and distorted them for entertainment. And that’s both sides, even the one I don’t agree with or support.
If anything, looking at the way a lot of republican voters have backpedaled post election, I’d go far enough to say that the ones who aren’t upper class are probably sitting in the same boat as the liberals who aren’t upper class. I’d venture we’re both unhappy with the outcome, some more than others.
Maybe we were ridiculous when we panicked, maybe we weren’t.
But I digress.
I don’t really enjoy how this season makes a mockery of people who do have things at stake. And as a writer I’m kind of offended by it too?
From a storytelling standpoint, it’s just bad. It’s not fully realized, it watches like a rough draft written the night before it’s due. Most of the characters seem shallow with the development and depth of a butter dish, and please don’t get me started on the dialogue, I’ll riot.
I’m all for non-linear plots and stuff that doesn’t make sense until it’s all unraveled (that’s what makes Gone Girl so appealing, the delicate untangling of non-linear structure that leaves you with a stiff amount of doubt), and I don’t even mind storytelling that doesn’t follow a traditional plot arc. In fact, sometimes those stories are more compelling when they’re told with a sense of originality and authenticity.
Cult has none. It functions like a badly structured competitive reality series where the competitors in the game don’t manage time and resources wisely. I can forgive a lack of originality—there are no such things as stories you’ve never heard before, I’m serious—but there’s absolutely no authenticity to these characters. If Netflix can achieve a stronger and more dynamic relationship between two brothers and their ragtag band of friends in 9 episodes, then you can certainly achieve it too, Murphy.
I don’t feel anything in Winter and Kai’s relationship. And I know how siblings roll, I have eight of them. I wanted to feel something for Ivy and Ally, but because the character establishing lacked depth, my ability to care about what happens to these characters ran out like 6 episodes back. It was fine last season for that setup. In fact, that is the setup that grants the ability for the audience to take pity, because they barely know these people and awful things are happening. This season doesn’t.
And the part where I can only figure RMs intent is to mock and belittle the average layperson disturbs me too. Who do you think watches these shows? If you’re going to create media intended to open a discussion (which it seems like this is) then you need to pick a side. It clarifies the vision, even if you don’t agree with the side you’re taking. If you side with the villains, then the audience feels greater sympathy for the victim, if you take the side of the victims then you make the fall of the villains that much more triumphant. Pick a damn side and quit pussyfooting because you don’t want to be offensive. ITS ALREADY OFFENSIVE.
I’m sure I’ll be walking the same path next season, but at this point I miss a sense of clarity and direction that it would seem only Tim Minear can generate.
Dear Tim, please take control of the crazy train before any more damage is done. Thanks.
I’ll stop there for now. I fear this is too long and growing less clear by the minute, but if you made it this far, all the cookies and cupcakes for you!
It was the moment she caught his eye. The moment he sensed an echo of the power buried within her. You can't convince me otherwise.
Sarah Paulson has the most beautiful eyes, seriously...
And it gives me some impure Cordelia x Michael thoughts.
Usually, neediness annoys him. Except, when she makes the 🥺 expression. Then, he finds it irressistible.
Weirdly enough, the best reference I can think of is the scene with Venable... Just imagine it's Cordelia, and he does kiss her.
Well, and this
