observations/theories i've made while working on an agatha all along fanfic that is basically the show but...more

in episode 5 when they're playing with the Ouija board and Evanora starts berserking, Rio says "I hate ghosts." [*stares directly into the camera*]
i have a theory that rio must give off some sorta...vibe? sensation? to whomever she's standing in proximity to. i suspect it's a sudden coldness, which explains why agatha always seems to know she's around.
i don't think agatha lies. ever. she's not very forthcoming, but just because she doesn't show her full hand doesn't make her a liar. she keeps her cards close to her chest.
they never explore this, but i think the only reason why agatha ever got her hands on the darkhold was to resurrect nicky, or failing that, a spell to defeat death. i think they've been enemies for a while and agatha has used murder as a ruse to distract rio from her ultimate plan which was to get the darkhold. attempting to end rio's existence would be a damn good motive for her to be so angry. and also sometimes you just can't get over your ex, even when you're bad for each other.
nicky was a disruption in the natural order of things. he was "planted" by rio, this pissed a few people off, and she was just gonna take him back until agatha begged her for time. so she agreed. but not without huge personal sacrifice.
listen, i know agatha had billy and tommy in a chokehold at one point in wandavision, but i think that was all darkhold. i don't think agatha would've even made ralph hurt sparky if she knew the kids would be devastated.
another bit from wandavision: billy and tommy are at her house on the couch and billy is petting the rabbit when agatha asks "penny for your thoughts?" billy says he likes it there at her house because it's quiet. because she's quiet. which begs the question: if she liked the kid and he felt content with her, why couldn't billy hear her thoughts?
my other theory is that before wanda's spell was broken, agatha cast the boys out to keep them safe. she is why billy got to inhabit another body. she knows a thing or two about hurting and losing your children. she would've known it would eat wanda alive to think she hurt them or lost them forever.
agatha and loki found each other on the titanic, got absolutely trashed, and spent the rest of the night trying to one-up each other to see who could be the most chaotic, just to liven things up. agatha won.
mike flanagan looks at huge fancy houses and goes “yeah….oh yeah. could make some really fucked up shit happen there.” and he just goes for it. to only envision something and possess the determination to make it happen like that…cheers to you mike flanagan
PSA: Just a friendly reminder that whenever you start a creative project, you will invariably hit a phase where the Thing™️ appears horrendous and you start asking existential questions. But if you keep working, it invariably passes and starts to resemble something less like the devil’s vomit. Doesn’t matter if it’s art, writing, or what–this happens repeatedly. Carry on.
This is a bit of advice I always pass on to people asking me about art. EVERY. SINGLE. PEICE. Every single one that I love I have at one point or another wanted to throw in the trash. Wanted to burn in a fire. Wanted to give up and leave it. The trick is to go “okay what is the worst part and how do I fix it” and just focus on that ONE thing. Then you do that again for the second worst. Then you do it again. And again. Until finally nothing needs fixing. And then it’s done and it’s beautiful.
If you dont love it, it’s not done yet. That’s all there is to it.

Some of the retcons are particularly surprising!
Just gonna bounce off this bc reasons and everyone seems to be taking cheap shots OK
1.) The origin of superpowers
The first season says El is the result of an MKUltra experiment. Nothing about Henry/One/Vecna messes with that if Brenner was experimenting with Henry's sperm as well. El could very well be Henry's progeny. This does fit the timeline.
2.) The kids sharing the same power set/Kali being an anomaly
Vecna implanted plenty of perceptions in his victim's minds. All saw the grandfather clock. Chrissy's illusion was actually super vivid and so was Max's. I'd imagine El is also capable of that skill, it just hasn't been tapped yet.
3.) Eleven had more experience with other kids than previously believed.
S4 flashbacks put El at age 8/9. First season memories aren't wrong, they just seem "post" One Banishment/gate opening. There's an entire span of possible years we're missing out on information for, but my guess is that the magnitude of El's power compelled them to isolate her. Also, she was clearly the oddball from the start.
4.) Tie in content with other escapees
There's no way of knowing El was part of the only focus group Brenner was working with. There could've been another 011 in a different part of the lab.
5.) The first opening into the upside down
You gonna tell me a whole wing of scientists didn't explore the possibility of opening shit up to exploit for themselves when El uncovered its existence???
6.) The upside down is frozen in 1983
This is the only one I'm really iffy on. Only bc it seems like the UD is an ever-expanding part of a parallel universe. I think there's some inconsistent info there from previous seasons.
7.) Demogorgons can survive in the outside world without a gate.
Who tf says Russia doesn't have a gate of their own?
8.) Not all areas in the upside down are toxic
This doesn't feel like a plot hole tbh. There's areas where the "network" grows thick. Just like the introduction of radioactive matter into the natural world where we live, the further from the highest point of radioactivity you get, the less potent it is. That's not a plot hiccup, that's the mechanics of science and the world this show created for us to live in.
