hi!! i hope this is the right place to ask and i apologise if not but i had a question about the book "the help" by kathryn stockett. i recently started reading it and was immediately uncomfortable with the way the white author writes the character aibileen in aave/bve. as i am a nonblack poc, i was looking for perspectives from members of the black community about this or about "the help" in general. i've already read some articles about how it's not a useful piece of media in terms of discussing racism and falls into white saviour tropes, but most articles i could find were fairly surface-level and almost exclusively about the movie. i was wondering if anyone knew of any posts or essays by black writers discussing "the help" and especially the meta-racism in its white authorship. thank you!

This is absolutely the place to ask!!! Please don't apologize. Unfortunately because the movie is like from early tumblr I don't know if I've even seen anyone react to just the book version? much less Black bloggers. HOwever! I've done some preliminary searching on the academic sites and saved a few articles that looked promising. I'll try to get to it this weekend. I'll update and reblog my findings here on this post!

I’m reading the book “The help” by Kathryn Stockett, I had to read it for school so I didn't look up for it but it is a really beautiful book and I didn't even reach helf of it QwQ I know there is a movie about it too so I hope to see it when I’m finished! for now here a fanart of Aibileen and little Mae Mobley

My dirty children. They’re getting along well. We’ve moved to my trainer’s home barn, which is where Aibileen grew up. Her grandma is in a separate pasture (because she’s 25 and aibileen is an asshole)

Frosty is having some soundness issues which we suspect are arthritis related. We are going to start him on a joint supplement. I’m not too upset because it’s the first time he’s been off since i bought him (5.5 yrs ago) and he’s turning 19 soon.

Aibileen is being sweet and well behaved (most of the time). Right now we are just doing groundwork and hand walking. She’ll be turning 3 in March and I’m really excited to do some materiale classes with her, eventually. Right now she’s getting the winter off.

Long overdue update

It’s been a while y’all!!! I’ve just been busy with buying and selling and looking for horses and riding and training and working at the barn.. summer has flown by!

Anyways- Pirate was sent back home. She had some soundness issues and we weren’t the best match.

Teddy the asshole pony was sold to a place in Georgia at the end of July.

I now have a 2.5yr old Hanoverian mare named Aibileen who is such a cutie and so relaxed for all the new things we throw at her. Today was her second time being ridden and her first trot with a rider. I’m really excited to see how she matures and progresses.

Hopefully I will remind myself to keep updating y’all on Aibi. Frosty is doing well and he’s being leased by two loving ladies who might give him too many treats but I let it slide.

We are thinking of setting up a small paddock and run in shed at my house for Abi over the winter and for Frosty when he retires (hopefully not soon! Hes only 18.)

Anyways that’s what’s been happening with me!
