On July 13th, 2019, Alexandria is celebrating its 270th birthday!
Alexandria is located in the Commonwealth of Virginia, in the USA. When the first United States President, George Washington, was a teenager, he worked as one of the surveyors in the area in order to draw plans for a new town, which was to be called “Alexandria”. This work began in 1748 and in the following year, 1749, Alexandria was established.
Many historical events happened in the area before and after Alexandria was founded, such as the first European settlement in 1695, and the US Naval Torpedo Station built during WWI. Additionally, in 1932, the building of the George Washington Masonic National Memorial was completed, and currently it is a National Historic Landmark.
