“I picked it in Lothering. I remember thinking, ‘how could something so beautiful exist in a place with so much despair and ugliness?’ I thought that I might…give it to you, actually. In a lot of ways, I think the same thing when I look at you.”

2026 vs 2019
Decided the revisit this piece! Really exciting to have it actually start matching the version in my head 🙈
“What business do you have in the alienage, shem?”
Aidah Tabris, colorized, c. 2022
Aidah Tabris shifted her weight uncomfortably as she stood staring at the closed doors to the main hall, waiting for Seneschal Varel to announce her. The layers of cloth, leather, and chainmail were hot. Constricting. The plate armor felt impossibly heavy. It was all closing in on her, threatening to crush her.
The Grey Wardens of Ferelden. Vigil’s Keep. The entire arling of Amaranthine. All under her protection, all her responsibility.
As the doors were opened, Aidah affixed the winged helmet under her arm and lifted her chin. Countless pairs of eyes turned to rest on her, each one like a burning coal on her skin. She walked forward—gaze steady, expression composed, heart beating loudly in her ears.
“All rise. The Warden-Commander and liege lord of all Amaranthine enters.”

“Aidah! What happened? Where is your mother?”
“She told me to run, and I did. I left her. I left her behind.”
My first Aidah Tabris of 2023 👊
