Of course Nina had to have noticed that he was up and about. Forrest sighed in frustration.  ❝ My fever’s been gone for two days now, Nina. I just want some fresh air. ❞

He felt fine—as fine as he usually did, anyways. He could understand her concern if he was still sick, but his care team had deemed him well again. They had advised rest for a few more days, but he’d gotten it. If he stayed put any longer, he’d go mad!

"Mommy! Look at this box of kittens I just found." She shoved the tiny box of meowing creatures toward the woman - perhaps a little TOO forcefully "Do you think Lady Elise will like them? Do YOU like them? You can cuddle them while you cuddle me!"

she tried not to let delight COMPLETELY captivate her features, but it was too late. effie loved cats---she was suddenly reminded of the strays she used to care for when she lived in the slums of nohr, and how she had saved bits of bread and meat from her dinners just to make sure they wouldn’t starve. now, as the woman gathered some of the kittens into her arms, she smiled warmly at her daughter. they were fortunate enough to live amongst nohrian royalty as a family, and so they could at least afford to care for a pet (or two, or five). this was all effie had ever wanted: enough to eat, enough to get by with, and a life filled with love!

“oh---well---of course i do!” she cooed, green eyes darting down to the babies in her arms. one was solid black, and had eyes that looked like her own. effie knew already that it would be her favorite. “elise will love them, sweetheart! come here, let’s start thinking up names for these guys!”
