1910 Decade Historical

.1910-

-On December 26th, Jack Johnson became the first black boxer to win the Heavyweight Boxing Championship after he knocked out reigning champion Tommy Burns.

-King Edward VII (son of Queen Victoria) dies on May 6th, after only being King for 9 years. The Royal Family referred to him as ‘Bertie’.

1912-

-Titanic hits an iceberg and sank in the Atlantic on April 14th, after being described as unsinkable. The voyage was from Southampton to New York. The sinking of the ship resulted in the loss of more than 1500 lives.

1913-

-Mona Lisa is recovered in Florence after theft from Paris 2 years before.

1914-

-Start of World War One.  On June 28th Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria attended a military review, during his visit he and his wife were killed by Gavrilo Princip, a nationalist that wanted the Austro-Hungarian Empire out of Bosnia. 

1915-

-First Transcontinental Telephone Call was made in New York to San Francisco.

1917-

-British Royal Family change their name. George V changed the name to a German sounding name. Royal House of Windsor.

1918-

-Royal Air Force is founded in England.  The aircraft in use in 1918 when the RAF started included the Sopwith Pup, Bristol F2B Fighters, Sopwith Camels and Royal Aircraft Factory SE5's.

1919-

-US congress approves daylight savings time. Many countries followed Germany to the use of DST.

-First pop up toaster was invented by Charles Strite. The toaster used heated electrical coils to toast bread

Structure Evaluation

Overall this was one of my least favourite briefs as it was challenging waiting on a sunny day and as we were doing our Personal Project at the same time, any sunny day was dedicated to that. When I first went out to shoot my exterior photographs, I did shoot the building in the wrong light making the photographs look flat. I then researched when the best time of day to shoot the exterior shots were and this helped me to get my final photographs. I should have researched the best times to shoot beforehand as this would have saved me time. For all of my photographs I used a 24-105mm lens as this allowed me to zoom in on different parts of the building inside and out. Taking the full building shot and trying to get as little things in it as possible in the shot was a challenge and almost impossible.

In post-production, I made the full building shot vertical on the right side but this off set the left side. I also controlled the perspective on one of my interior photographs as I read the brief wrong and thought that I only had to control perspective in 2 of any of my 5 photographs. I found it very hard to control the perspective on my other 2 photographs I had taken therefore I had to choose another one of my photographs that I had taken from that day to control the perspective.

Live Project

For my live project I have been asked to photograph a baby shower for a family friend. I will be supplying her with the photographs as she wants them as part of a maternity photo album.

Structure

These are my first photographs I took for structure. I took the exterior ones at the wrong time as I was shooting into the sun, this makes the building look very flat. I may use my interior one as one of my final. I haven't done any perspective control in Photoshop with these photographs.

Recycle final

I chose to photograph an Irn Bru bottle in front of an Iron background.

I like how my final image turned out.

The use of little toys to create a scene is a very good idea but I don’t think it is something I will do for my Recycle photograph.
