Aaron wrung his hands in his lap, perched uncomfortably on the edge of the ‘bed’ he’d been assigned. The bed made a kind of creak when he sat on it like the frame was going to bend and shatter at any second, and the mattress itself seemed to him like a glorified cot that was going to kill his back.
With a labored sigh, Aaron tugged at the collar of his shirt and finally decided to unbutton the top three buttons so he could breathe. This place was hot. Sticky, even. That kind of oppressive heat that made it hard to breathe.
The door opened and Aaron nearly jumped out of his shoes. He regarded the woman at the door with a furrowed brow. “You in charge here?”
