Internet strangers I need advice of the more military-ish variety
Usually when I post anything personal I never get any responses, but I seriously need some advice. I’m nearing a crossroads right now I would just like some advice or tips on what I should do moving forward.
Ok, so some background would be helpful. I’m in the Air Force. My contract is 6 years and in 4 months it ends. I’ve been stationed at FE Warren AFB (Cheyenne, WY) for around 4 years, Incirlik AB (Adana, Turkey but don’t get excited because I got there a couple months after they closed the gates and yes I was there during the coup) for 15 months, and now I’m stationed at Mountain Home AFB (Mountain Home, ID). Not the best places to be stationed, but not everyone can get Aviano then move on to Ramstein afterwards some folks get stuck at Malmstrom and FE Warren for years.
I’ve tested for SSgt three times and I haven’t made it yet. With the new rating system I average between a Promote and Must Promote on my EPRs leaning more towards Promote.
Overall I have hated my experience in the Air Force. I’ve enjoyed the people I’ve met during my time and I’ve made some very lasting and strong friendships. I’ve also enjoyed some of the training I’ve received, but other than that an overall horrible experience.
Due to my life, work, mild depression, anxiety, and personality I have not been to TAPS yet (please don’t judge me), though I have signed up for it nor have I started my separation checklist.
I know for sure I will not reenlist and I want to go guard.
I figure I can go one of two ways:
1: Separate, move in with my parents (they’re retired and we get along super well), and just put in applications at usajobs until I get a job
2: Extend for a year, put in applications at usajobs until I get a job, and either palace chase or palace front depending on when I get the job
I just don’t know what to do. On one hand I hate my job, life, and this area, but on the other hand having a steady job with healthy insurance and a decent pay is pretty awesome. This has been my life for the past 6 years so I’m very afraid of something that will radically change my life.
So please, anyone with experience with this or with life in general give me some advice
Hate being so far away from our family when things get hard. I feel so useless from here. Prayers and I love you's only go so far
Just had really bomb sex with my ex before he leaves to get stationed in Nevada for 2 years
I have to wear my blues tomorrow Urgh
Two months until I can be with the boo thang again. This deployment really is flying by.
On other news, I'm gonna start flying again later this month. I haven't had the opportunity since I went on my check ride in december, so I know I'll be derpy as all fuck but at least I'll be doing my job again =).
Scrolling through the South Philly tag and liking/queuing/reblogging because I'm homesick.
Building a Mobility bag from scratch is muy expensivo. Needed to get new socks, towels, more sand tees and pt gear.
Poor A1C is poor.
