What Ive Realized About AI (Rant)
Im pretty youre tired of hearing about AI, as much as I am especially if you're an artist, and I'd like make to make something clear. This is not a doomer, fear mongering rant about how is going to replace artists and how we're cooked and blah blah blah. In fact, Im of the opinion that no matter how good Sora or whatever aislop bot that'll get introduced before the eventual bubble pop gets, ai will never be good enough to replace artists. But anyways, this is not going to be about the tech itself but rather the people online who not only bandwagon ai but are also gitty about the idea of ai replacing artists like Asmongold. What Ive noticed with alot of these people is that they treat art as a product to consume and that's easily replicable. Like a fast food, and they see ai art is a natural evolution and overall seeing the replacement of real people as necessary to making artwork more efficient to create. And while that might be true for some movies and shows, labeling all artwork as that is just flat out wrong.
And that got me thinking, and I realized it this morning: the people that ai appeals to so much are incredibly consumer brained. They've never actually had the experience of creating something, and just see stuff as something to consume. They never intellectually engage with the stories their reading or watching in a way that would allow them to think critically, and its why you have so many people who freak out when a new video game or show has a female protagonist and call it woke. And when I say 'intellectually engage', I dont mean they have to break down the piece of media for all its themes and crap. Something as simple as wondering which character is stronger or which character the MC would end up falling for counts, because you're using your brain to engage with the piece of media in a way the story didnt intend for you to do. You're not just consuming it mindlessly and moving onto the next piece of content, and maybe youd want to write a story with those characters to see who was stronger or who would end up with who. And that alone would make you a more intellectually stronger than any of the ai bros that plauge the internet.
Creating artwork is not an easy thing, but its not supposed to be easy. Nothing in life is, but you dont have to be skilled to create stuff. Like, think back to when you were a kid for example. Remember using your imagination when playing with your toys, or making creations with legos or doodling stuff in your notebook. Was the stuff you made or stories you played example of quality or skill? No but you werent trying to tell make something that would be profitable or to be enjoyed by alot of people. You did it because it was fun, and you liked doing it. And maybe, as you got older, you wanted to improve on one of your skills like drawing for example. And in doing so you'd not only learn new skills but also gain an appreciate for the craft itself as being something only humans could make. Thats how I became as skilled at drawing as I am and why I created Crescent Blue. Sure, I would like to go big with my comic one day but I also enjoy telling that story and drawing those characters and I wouldnt trade that away for the world. Art and storytelling may have become a product for consumption but that's not what defines it. And that's what these ai bros will never understand because they never create. They always consume, while also acting like they're superior which is ironic since they're the types of people that would easily get replaced by ai.
But I think these ai bros are a symptom of a large problem happening right now, especially in America. I dont want to sound like a conspiracy theorist but I think companies are trying to make us stupidier. Its why shit like tik tok got so popular, while fads like beanie babies, stanly cups, and labubus happened, why this stupid culture war is still going on and why these ai bros exist. They want us to be mindless sheep that wont fight back against them as they destroy our planet and make us poorer. But you know what? Fuck them! They only win if you let them win! And you know how you win? By being creative! If youre reading this and have never made something before but always wanted to, go out there and make something! It doesnt have to be professional, it just needs to something thats fulfilling to you! Express yourselves in ways ChatGPT could never do in a thousand years! Be better than what ellite and ai bros want you be!
