“BACK TO SUPERSONICA”

A street art pioneer, @KennyScharf studied in New York, was a roommate of Keith Haring, and traded art with Andy Warhol. Reflecting an early fascination with television and the futuristic promise of shows like The Jetsons, Scharf's anti-elitist work often includes pop culture icons and spans a wide range of practices including sculpture, fashion, video, and performance. Back in his native Southern California Scharf recently moved from his Culver City studio to a large space in Inglewood and is working as hard as ever, telling @GalerieMagazine at one point "I don't stop—seven days a week, ten hours a day." Back in 2013 Scharf visited the @PimaAir & Space Museum in Tucson to participate in the Bone Yard Project, painting "Back to Supersonica" on this out of service Lockheed Jetstar.  @kennyscharf

122917 MT-647 Suffered from it’s share of technical problems. Made to replace an aging MT-547 it was “too fidgety at the stick” complained several pilots. Engineering and electrical problems plagued this model until it’s early retirement in 428. Because of it’s small prototype run it is now a collector’s prize to own one in new condition. . . . .
