What's the best from airplanes? It flies. They leave the ground.
T-1 Day: Preparing for the Long Flight
I cannot believe that tomorrow is the day. If I am being completely honest, I'm starting to get extremely nervous. I'm so worried about how everything will go, and there are so many new things, new places, new people that it's really overwhelming at times. Nonetheless, I am still excited to start this new adventure and continue to keep a positive mindset.
Tomorrow, for me, is a whole day of traveling, from 9am on Friday, until 9am on Saturday I will be in an airport or on a plane. With this in mind I figured I would share some of my tips for surviving long flights.
Bring a journal, book, magazine, download a movie, listen to music, anything that will keep you entertained throughout the flight.
Make sure all your electronics are charged and keep your chargers in your carry-on.
Bring a neck pillow of some sort. Yes, they are not very fashionable but they help tremendously. I have one that looks more like a scarf and works perfectly!
Bring your own snacks, both small and large. I recommend some sort of protein bar, nuts, an apple, or some carrots. Also, consider buying your meal from the airport instead of the one they provide if you are picky.
Stay hydrated. Hydration is key when flying, which also means you should try to stay away from caffeine such as that from coffee.
Walk around or simply stretch in your seat. This will help your body's circulation so you don't end up stiff when you arrive.
Wear layers that you can easily take on and off to adjust to the temperature. Personally, I am constantly cold on airplanes, so sweaters are essential. Tip: If you don't end up using one of your layers put it behind your lower back to support it in the awkwardly shaped seats.
Pack items pertaining to your hygiene. Nobody likes to smell B.O. for hours on end. Key items to have on hand include: deodorant, hand sanitizer, floss, lotion
Motion sickness and sleeping aid medicine are great to have just incase the flight is really getting to you. Tums aren't a bad choice either, just saying.
Last, but not least, try to get some sleep. I know it is hard at times, but even just a hour of sleep will benefit your body.
I hope some of these ideas will help in your next flight. While I know it can seem like forever, I promise you'll make it to your destination eventually, just hang in there!
