the significance of "fifi:" she's one of two surviving airworthy b29 superfortresses left in the world. the first photo is "doc," the other airworthy b29, who was doing heritage flights for the first half of the week :)
2025 4th of July celebration Livermore airport in California. Two aircraft from the Commemorative Air Force SoCal Wing, F6F Hellcat and B-25J Mitchell Marine version.
I’ve still got one more day at EAA, but I couldn’t wait to share these pictures I have of their B-17G Flying Fortress Aluminum Overcast.
This aircraft is particularly special because it was at one point painted in honor of High Life, a 100th Bomb Group aircraft painted with the “The Lady on the Moon” on the nose. Harry Crosby posed in front of the aircraft during a promotion being done by Miller High Life and the Crew of Donald Oaks some years after the war. Crosby is posing with a copy of Flying Fortress by Edward Jablonski open to a picture of himself during WWII.
Standing in front of an aircraft that Harry Crosby stood in front of might not seem all that impressive, and it probably isn’t, but that doesn’t mean this aircraft isn’t historically significant on its own.
I’ve seen this plane before in previous years, but it’s still an absolute delight to see. I am so incredibly happy it was parked in the warbird area this year so that more people could get the chance to see such an incredible part of history.
Goodyear by Brian Hechel Via Flickr: At EAA AirVenture 2025 Goodyear sent two of it's blimps to the Experimental Aircraft Association's annual convention in Oshkosh Wisconsin. N2A or "Wingfoot Two" leads the way followed by N1A known as "Wingfoot One" painted in a speacial 100th Anniversary paint sceme in commemeration of the Goodyear airship "Pilgrim". This was the first commercial non-rigid airship flown using helium and the first public relations blimp for the company.
