I’m rereading Mirya scenes to make sure I’m getting a sense of his voice/characterization and I think I’m turning into a bigger Airya fan 😄. I kept laughing at their conversation during this WoW Ch. 12 scene:

“Her mission did not succeed,” Kyrian said, to which Mirya nudged Aina’s shoulder.
“What a relief,” the prince said. “The two of us are just starting to bond. I’d hate having to compete with a seitarius.”
Aina scowled at him. “Touch me again and I’ll kill you.”
“You’d have to reinstate death first.” Mirya paused. “Why are you always so angry?”
“Why are you always so happy?” Aina shot back.
“Right now it’s because you’re such a bundle of joy to be around.”
Aina snorted. “I think you’re pretending. Masking your true emotions.”
“I see.” Mirya cocked his head, and a lock of hair fell over his eyes. “And what emotion are you masking, Aina?”
Aina froze. She despised him for asking her that and herself for bringing it up.
Kyrian cleared his throat and looked pointedly at Mirya. “What is the latest report from Kirnos?” the Preserver asked.
“None of our informants have returned,” Mirya said, sobering at once.”

As a fic writer it is really fun having a character that has somewhat of this cool guy/happy go lucky persona (that you can’t quite tell what is real and not) and then making them drop that in some way. Even if it’s just for a second. At least I found it fun, and Vora did such a good job writing Mirya that I’m having a blast getting to make him interact in a very different way with certain characters he did not talk to much in the book.
I also love how we get to see Aina’s emotional intelligence. I think she is the character who knows herself/feelings (and the feelings of others) the best (and she’s not afraid to speak her mind). So she’s a fun person to write.
