Cassie stretched her arms high above her head, walking happily down the sidewalk. She’d been in a good mood all day; she woke up naturally and refreshed, the news had a happy story about a kitten being saved from drowning by a stranger, and she’d curled her hair into ringlets, a style she’d been into lately. Letting her arms fall to her sides, she swung them with a bit too much energy. But it was a happy energy.
The more Cassie walked, the more she noticed sitting areas popping up. She saw an empty bench and decided to take a break and partake in one of her favorite pastimes: people watching. She smoothed her skirt beneath her before sitting, crossing her legs and smiling widely. Cassie liked to make up stories about people in her head as she watched; what they might be thinking about, where they came from, where they were going. If they were lonely, in love, pensive, angry. Generally Cassie liked people, but she knew there were bad seeds in the world. She often thought that caterpillars and people had a lot in common, and if they could communicate to each other, they could learn a lot from one another. She started talking to herself quietly - thinking out loud, more than anything. “If everyone lived like caterpillars, there’d be a lot less crime. And a lot more symmetrically accurate butterflies...”
