AJ had figured somewhere other than Joe’s would be an acceptable place to take Max for dinner. He had met her in the lobby, and together, they walked down the street to an Irish Pub that AJ went to occasionally. “How was the rest of your day?” he asked as they settled into a booth and he passed her a menu.

“Hey man, I was looking over your charts since I am now pushing all our damn paperwork, and you missed a couple signatures,” AJ told Christian as he caught up with him on the plastics floor. He was trying to keep himself busy so Dr. White couldn’t badger him about getting back into the OR. AJ knew he wasn’t ready, and if he was doing something productive? Most were likely to leave him alone. Plus, charting and ordering labs was relatively easy for an attending.

AJ walked into Joe’s and spotted an unfamiliar women at the bar. He made his way over, already pulling his wallet from his pocket to cover his tab and the rest of her drinks for the night. If she didn’t tell him to get lost. Of course. “Drinking alone?” AJ asked sitting down next to her and motioning the bartender over. “I’ll take a whiskey and whatever else the lady would like.”

He leaned against the counter and pushed a cup of coffee towards her. “I walked down to the good coffee cart, just so you know,” he winked.

AJ knew he owed Cameron this much, so he found himself at her door, DNA test results in hand. He took a breath before knocking. He still had no idea what he wanted. It hadn’t become clear to him. He didn’t feel any closer to a decision than he had before. AJ rubbed a hand over his face and waited. This wasn’t going to be easy, but he had to do it. He owed Cameron that much.

“Had to come and see for yourself if I was really wounded huh?” AJ called out when he saw Gwen pacing outside of his hospital room. “Afraid of a little competition?” he teased with a grin although he knew there was no real competition. But it was fun to try and get under her skin. He needed the entertainment given the situation.

AJ grumbled as he made his way to the Chief of Surgery’s office. It was never good to be paged there. Ever. He was typically only called there for a lecture, and he wasn’t interested in that today. He hadn’t slept with anyone lately, and he hadn’t been operating, so what could he have possibly done? He had no idea. AJ knocked softly on the door before popping his head in. “You paged Chief?”

“Are you here as a hospital lawyer or as my friend?” AJ asked when he saw Ryan standing in the doorway of his hospital room. “Please tell me though that you got me a new phone because I have no idea where mine is. Probably somewhere in the woods smashed to pieces like a lot of other things,” he added with a slight chuckle. If he couldn’t laugh about the situation, what else was he going to do at this point?
