5 Choke Hold Defenses Women MUST Know | Self Defense | Aja Dang
Aja Dang
One thing I cannot stress enough is that you have to practice these--as with any kind of self-defense--a lot. They take a lot of trial and error and you need to have them in your muscle memory. Plus, you’re not automatically going to be able to hit these every time, especially if your opponent knows what he’s doing.
Something a lot of you won’t like but I’m going to say anyway is that you need to practice with male partners (especially in a class) if you can. Other women--which is pretty much who you’re going to be with in women’s self-defense classes and seminars--are much easier to get away from, and while you may have a lot of adrenaline running in a case where you truly need to defend yourself, the last thing you want is to not already be fully aware of physical differences and how to work around them.
Note: These aren’t the only ways to get out of these holds, but they are good ones and pretty standard. I used them a lot.
