It’s silly to expect people to accept your recasts by default in a community filled with creators and artist-supporters. You are not an evil human being for having recasts…but you don’t get to be selfish and have overwhelming approval from the community too.

You can substitute “recasts” with other forms of stolen art (music, games) and it’ll still apply.

I see art-related laws to be like “soft” rules as it doesn’t evoke the same feelings as seeing someone physically hurt and it doesn’t always involve stealing physical goods. When you observe them, it’s the emotional and mental toll you’re protecting the artists from. To be effective, it is observed and enforced by the global community.

Sure, when there’s an infringement case, the law can go either way (as it does with everything else, even murder trials). What you’re trying to prevent is chaos where people can randomly plagiarize ot steal art and feel nothing. Hate companies now? Don’t feel morally obligated when they’re the ones stolen from? Imagine these same companies having no obligation to hire and pay small-scale artists because, hey, they can just randomly grab an image off the internet and it’s legal. Full stop.

Being subjected to these rules as a whole, doing your best in respecting other people”s rights support the artists and give them space to create. No one will bat an eyelash when you keep screencaps, even rip those Youtube videos for personal use…but heck, keep it to yourself. Don’t promote it. Don’t attempt to make it acceptable just so you can justify your own feelings about it. Feeling a little guilt is good…maybe it’ll help drive you to buy legit dolls/pay for your music/go watch a movie in the theater someday.
