What are your prediction for this season? And your hopes?
Oh, fantastic question, anon! I was debating whether I should make a 2021 predictions post, so this ask is kind of perfect. 🙏🏻
Predictions:
- Lewis and Mercedes to win WDC and WCC respectively. This is kind of a safe, uninspired prediction, but after seven consecutive seasons of domination, I can’t see it going any other way. They’ve experienced some hiccups during testing and it’s entirely possible that it takes them a bit longer than usual to get into the swing of things - remember, Seb was leading the championship for basically the first half of the season in 2018 - but I imagine they’ll come out on top by the end of the year.
- Despite assurances, Charles and Carlos are going to have on-track tension and possibly crash each other out. Carlos is going to be fighting to prove his worth and secure his place in the team, to show everyone that he’s not just here to be Charles’s designated support act, that he can play with the Big Boys in the top teams. Neither is the type to back down. So unless some concessions and compromises are made, I’m expecting this to be quite a volatile pairing. Charles outperforms Carlos.
- Lando and Daniel are going to be the most evenly matched teammate pairing this season, with Lando having a slight edge over Daniel because he’s familiar with the car and the team. McLaren will be one of the surprise race winners this season.
- Mercedes will have another shockingly terrible race a la Germany 2019, Sakhir 2020.
- Ferrari improves but not significantly; Charles will be back on the podium.
- Checo will match and actively challenge Max; their relationship turns sour as a result.
- Seb will outperform Lance; team drama strikes again; there’s some disillusionment.
- Alpha Tauri back on the podium; Yuki impresses.
- Fernando’s comeback will be generally underwhelming.
- George scores his first points in the Williams; outperforms Nicholas.
- Kimi retires at the end of the year, replaced by Callum.
- Pierre to move to Alpine.
Hopes:
- Ferrari to finish ahead of Aston Martin. Look, I know this is unlikely, but this is the hopes section for a reason. 👀
- Seb and Charles reunited on the podium. I mean, please. Feed the rats 🙏🏻 Also it would super interesting to see their podium dynamic when they’re no longer teammates. 👀 Give me that leftover fondness, damn it.
- Checo outperforms Max to finish 3rd in the standings. 👀
- Valtteri WDC.
- Charles wins at least one race.
- Seb wins at least one race.
- Checo, Charles, Lando podium.
- Charles, Seb, Daniel podium.
- Charles, Seb, Pierre podium.
- For the first time in his F1 career, Monaco isn’t a complete write-off for Charles this season and he actually finishes the race.
- McLaren finishes 3rd in the constructors’.
- B*notto is finally blessedly made redundant.
