What do my parents think of my cosplay: My mom knits. sews, and quilts and my dad had an apprenticeship as a tailor for 7 years and spent 8 years as a fashion designer for a major sport clothes company. When I told them I wanted to start sewing they got very happy. When I told them I wanted to sew clothes out of video games they cooled a little bit but they used to game a lot so they were still into it. Finally when I told them about starting a Hetalia cosplay they weren’t so thrilled. They don’t think of cosplay as “real” sewing since you often take the easy way when making something so it looks great for a con but maybe wont last forever. But thankfully now they don’t have a problem with it since I got a part time job. As long as I do well at work and pay for my own fabric they love to help teachign me new ways to sew. Things are going so well ,in face, that with their help I plan on opening an online vest and tie shop over this summer

I have a follow up question to the girl who wanted to know about guy make up for howl. I am myself a guy doing howl soon ... Do I need make up since I'm already his gender? Or do I need to change something. I've never done makeup before, yikes

Even guys should do the basics! Must-have:Foundation/Consealer/Translucent Powder - This is going to hide pimples and red spots and make your complexion more even in photos. The powder will reduce shine and make your face less oily. Possibly:Contouring - This is using darker and lighter shades of foundation to make subtle changes to your face shape. It is not necessary for every costume, but can be really beneficial if you want to downplay certain features. Eyeliner - Not a lot of it for males, but small amounts can be used to help change the shape of an eye. Howl has a thick black line on his upper eyelid, while that usually represents eyelashes it's appearance can be translated to cosplay by using eyeliner. Lipstick - Rather than make lips more pink, go for something that makes them more pale. Otherwise, wear a good lip balm to keep lips from looking dry and cracked. Look at other cosplayers, specifically Howl cosplayers, for inspiration to see what works. If they are wearing eyeliner, does it make them look more like the character? Is it effective? Can you copy it? Once you've settled on what works for other people, attempt it on yourself. Even though I say foundation is a must-have, you might find that it is not necessary for your skin type or not needed for the character.Makeup can be a bit intimidating but practice makes perfect!
