A pained look crossed the boy features and he tossed in his bed. Giant black monsters ran along side him. Their glowing red eyes watch him and their sharp teeth were bared and gnashing at him. A loud howl came from the boys small throat. Then before he could realize what was happening loud growling and barking came from behind him. And, suddenly, the giant monsters were yelping and running away.
In an instant someone was beside him waking him and saying his name in a sweet soft tone. It was strong and warm and made him feel safe.
"Riddick! Riddick, sweety it’s okay! Papa’s right here. Papa’s got you. You’re safe buddy." Large warm arms that felt like super man to him wrapped themselves around his tiny body and scooped him up.
At first he didn’t know whether to struggle or to feel calm, but when a humongous hand covers the back of his head and ran their fingers through it he chose the latter.
The small pup sniffled a few times as little tears fell down his cheeks and stained the fabric of his father's shirt.
"Do you want to talk about it? Maybe Papa can help?" His father's tone was soft and reassuring to him and at first he shook his head. Then, as he thought more on it and those monsters stuck with him more he nodded.
"Dey is scawy Papa. Big, big monstuwrs." He pouted and another sniffle came about. Hotaka wiped a few tears from the boys eyes as he looked him in the face.
"Well, there aren't any monsters here anymore okay? Papa, scared them all away. I promise. Nothing here is going to get you." He pushed back a few strands of hair and kissed his son's forehead.
"Dey was big'n'black wif scawy red eyes Papa. Dey hads big teefs too. And dey was biggew dhen Papa." He reached his arms up above Hotaka's head to show how big. With the more Riddick went on about these monsters the more Hotaka became worried.
Riddick shouldn't know about the Erasers. He'd tried so hard to keep them from those beasts. Made sure that both Alecea and Riddick were always safe and out of that sort of danger. That wasn't their world. Hell it should have even been his, but it was a reality that his pack had faced in the past.
"Riddick, did you see these monsters out side of your dream too?" He didn't want to, but he had to ask. He had to make sure his family was safe. Even if it meant up rooting them from the only home they knew.
When the little boy shook his head and continued to wipe tears from his eyes Hotaka let out a breath he hadn't realized he was holding. He took the boys face, gently, in each of his giant hands and looked into green and blue eyes.
"You'd let Papa know if you saw them wouldn't you?" The boy nodded and another breath was exhaled in relief. "Good, now. Let's get you tucked in." There was a long drawn out silence as the large wolf tucked his pup in.
"Papa.... Those are really real monstuwrs?" Riddick asked quietly with the covers up to his chin. Hotaka sighed and he wasn't so sure he should tell his son, but it was better than having lied to him and not have the boy prepared.
"Yes, they are real monsters, but as long as your mommy and I, and the pack are around, you will be safe from them no matter what. I promise you that, okay, Riddick?" Again the boy nodded and a small smile crossed his features as he closed his eyes. The larger wolf kissed the boy on the forehead again and turned to leave from the room.
"I love you, Papa." Riddick's meager voice sounded from beneath the covers and amidst the dark.
"I love you, too, buddy." The smile that crossed his face could not have been more overjoyed.
