hanare japanese restaurant, the intermark mall.
we had our chinese new year reunion dinner outside this year, and we did not want to be close to the crowd, so we decided to have japanese food instead. this was recommended by my brother, as the place is not as noisy and has good reviews on their food. i believe their menu changes based on seasons, but there’s quite a few sets to select from.
i picked the sushi kaiseki ayame menu which has 6 courses in total - zenzai, chawanmushi, kawarizara, nigiri sushi, akadashi and kiesetsu no dezato. my mom selected the teppanyaki bento set which comes with tempura, gindara, zenzai and rice. the seafood teppanyaki set is also very interesting.
the course menu took quite sometime to serve, as there’s such a long break between each course, i guess the chef are busy because it was full house. the appetizers are alright, but nothing stood out to me, until the main sushi course is served. the fish is really fresh, good cut and it melts really nicely in the mouth. it was quite satisfying with the 8 piece sushi, although it was a long wait. the matcha warabimochi is really good too, but they only gave 2 small pieces, wished there were more.
overall dining experience is pretty okay, service is nice, the ambiance is comfortable, just had to wait too long. pricing is pretty premium and i feel that only the main course is worth the price, others are pretty average. maybe the wagyu menu have more surprises as that is their signature.
