I think the main difference between the Operator in MH and in RW, is that this Operator, the Rosswood/Reel World one, probably isn't struggling for food like the Operator in Marble Hornets. Like, think about it, the MH Operator was taking people as soon as they died and had much more limited powers, probably due to Skully literally taking its food for who knows how long while actively being fought against by Brian before then. (Brian literally saved Jessica from it, it's not too unlikely he genuinely caused problems for it.)
This Operator by contrast is almost playful, a cat with a mouse. Its also just much more powerful, being able to mimic voices and bringing people into the Ark without needing the tunnel, keeping them there to torment and tease endlessly, not even letting them die.
This is how the Operator behaves when it is well fed.
WHAT THE FUCK WAS THAT
Spoilers for ep. 5 under the cut
only one bed? pshh, so basic
only one room in the eternal night abandoned hospital dark universe where the monstrous cryptid stalking you can't get you? now thats what i want
marble hornets/rosswood fans saying "i think i found the operator in this episode" and the screenshot is this
AND THEYRE RIGHT
no hold on. hold on im cooking.
what if alex is gonna get an alter ego/other self/whatever you wanna call it.
jay has skully, tim has masky, brian has hoodie...
what if his speech degrading is the start of him turning into a proxy like figure?
Recently in the MH:Rosswood fandom, something I've seen tossed around with little contention is the headcanon that Riley is just, nonbinary Tim, and I'm going to be honest I think this headcanon is really disrespectful for multiple reasons.
Like, you don't have to say that MH:RW!Tim is dead, I certainly do not!! I am not saying you have to either. But Tim is purposefully not in MH:RW, and shoehorning him back so you can have Jam be canon at the expense of erasing a NB character is really shitty in my opinion. Because like it or not, this headcanon does erase Riley :-V you are erasing a potential character with their own personality and life and personhood in favor of shoving Tim into their place.
Sure, we don't know much about Riley, but getting rid of them entirely in favor of shoving Tim in their place with a name tag slapped on—as a nonbinary person (agender) it feels really shitty to see in a community I am a part of!!!
Why can't a nonbinary character just be a nonbinary character without being the extension of someone? Why can't you get into who they could be unless they're just another character with a name swap :-/?
Maybe people just don't care about that :-P but I wanted to get it off my chest.
being not normal
jay has been the most incurious, normal guy so far, which seems to be because he has people in his life, a support system, a grip on reality (contrasting alex but that's another analysis post)
but at the end of that last episode... he changes. hes the first to jump into that tunnel. hes getting desperate. now he and alex are on a level playing field, now both of them are isolated, both of them are losing grip on reality
as he loses his grip on reality, as his desperation increases, soon the only thing he can hold onto, the only thing that will mean anything, will be his camera, his only meaning being entirely reliant on filming what comes next...
