Mara: La la! La la!

Sol: All right, all right, Mara. Come here, off the kitty.

Akodo: Mrrrr.

Mara: La la! Wheeeee!

Mel: I am a fine gambler, when I choose to be…

Sol: Only when your life is on the line. And at that point, you’re always betting on you, so it’s unfair, really..

Mel: Bah! I am perfectly competent at card games!

Sol: I’ve got my Hearthstone deck. Do you want to go a round or two?

Mel: Not against you, Solarii!

Dal: Yeah, that be kinda an unfair comparin’. You’re a lot more into that than he is. An’ Hearthstone’s not really gamblin’, I think, just a game involvin’ cards.

Sol: Mara thinks it’s fine, don’t you?

Mara: La laaaa!

Whom does your character live with?

Mel: I live with myself, Roksana, and Maraasiel!

Mara: Da da! Ma ma! Eeeee! Dwa dwa! La la! Ay ay! Oo oo! Didy!

Dal: Lot’ve us drift through now and again.

Sol: Yeah… Roksy and Mel babysit Aen and Tu a lot, which often means Akodo drops by too. Sometimes I think the dragon spends as much time here as at home.

Akodo: Mrauf.

Dal: Hush, you.

Mel: Others that I have parted on good terms with visit occasionally! I readily admit that Dalantia and Solarii visit the most, though!

Steve Argyle - Legend of the Five Rings release - #8 Dawn of the Empire Akodo - card # 32/108

This is the fourth of ten cards Steve Argyle illustrated for the Legend of the Five Rings direct-to-player set Dawn of the Empire.  This is one of “The Nine Kami.”

This card, like every card in Dawn of the Empire, is available as a non-foil only.

Here's a dynamic warrior pose of the founder of the Lion Clan.  Steve has a ton of surface detail on this figure but it gets lost in the reduction to card size.

One of the interesting things about this piece of artwork is the redesigned Akodo family mon.  If you like that here's a place where you can buy that coffee mug with Akodo's mon on it.

The material surface rendering here gives us some hints of where Steve is going in his style.  Steve's skill in rendering metallic surfaces and fabrics gets better, but it's pretty impressive right from the beginning.
