Mountaineer Alan Arnette is attempting to summit the highest mountains in the world
Mountaineer Alan Arnette of Ft. Collins, Colo., is embarking on a bold project to summit all 14 of the 8000 m mountains in five years. It is unique in two ways: he is 58 years old, and his motivation is to raise $1 million to find a cure for Alzheimer's, the disease that took his mother and two aunts.

By Gopal Sharma KATHMANDU (Reuters) - Fresh ice avalanches struck on a perilous route where 16 Everest sherpas were killed last week, hiking officials said on Friday, making it almost certain that no one will summit the world's highest mountain from Nepal during this year's climbing season. "Teams are leaving, it's over for all," said leading climber Alan Arnette on his website. "Time to mourn and regroup." Many expeditions abandoned base camp this week after an April 18 avalanche killed 16 guides who were cracking ice and fixing ropes on the upper reaches of the Khumbu Icefall. Californian mountain guide Adrian Ballinger said that even before the latest avalanches, there had been an exodus of teams from base camp due to the aggressive behavior of a group of younger sherpas there. Tourism officials planned to visit the Mount Everest base camp Thursday to try to salvage the expedition season even as Sherpas and tour operators, shaken by last week’s avalanche deaths, began packing up and heading home.
Alan Arnette is also reporting that the Nepali government has declared the 2014 Everest season officially over.
One of the popular things to talk about, that we touched a little bit, is not just the number of climbers the mountain can support, but also the number of guides and what are the qualification for climbers? That’s a hot topic: Should there be some type of qualification for the guide services? Do they need to have more experience? All of the information I’ve seen is that there’s been a lot of talk with the Nepalese Ministry of Tourism, but no real changes. Everest is such an economic development tool for Nepal. It’s such a poor country that the money it brings in? I don’t think they’re willing to do anything that would put that in jeopardy.

Will May 21st Be A Victorious Day For Climbers?
Alan Arnette who is climbing to raise awareness and fund for Alzheimer's research has moved his date to summit Everest on 21st of May. He was set to summit on 19 or 20th May, but the weather has delayed it.
Mrs. Anshu Jamsenpa from Arunachal Pradesh, India who summited Everest on 12th May, wants to be the first women to Summit Mt. Everest twice in one season. She is currently at Camp II and has a plan schedule of Camp III on 19th May, Camp IV on 20th May and summit attempt on 21st May.
Meanwhile, on the other side of the Himalayan Ridge, David Morton and Melissa Arnot are on the way out of Base Camp setting the same goal of summiting Mt. Makalu on 21st May.

Alan Arnette is on the verse of climbing 7 summits for raising fund to the research of Alzheimer's disease. He has posted his latest audio Dispatch from Everest camp I 6,065 metres (19,900 ft) stating his mission to be on the summit of Everest by 19 or 20 of May.
After summitting Vinson 4,892 m (16,050 ft) (the highest mountain of Antarctica) and Aconcagua 6,962 m (22,841 ft) (the highest mountain in the Americas, located in Argentina), Everest is the third on his list.
